Well, you knew I was headed this way,

Attempted to find a decent clip of Sting aka Ace Face (without spoiling the fun for the uninitiated). This is more than enough,

(Possibly) Funny life experience / story on the Who... Back in the early 00's I was in an out of London a bunch for work and a good friend of mine convinced me I should stop wasting my GBP on hotels outside of Heathrow (Sheraton Skyline was the company go-to - and for those that know Heathrow, there is no "skyline" to talk about there... just old rooms and nothing to it..). So this friend of mine says you gotta stay in Richmond Hill and there is a great curry place off the Thames and so he set me up in this 1900's Victorian place with rooms the size of my bathroom, stairs that reminded me on the attic fold down ladder, and lukewarm water to go with the luke warm beer... but it was great because at least it was "real". Great curry down at the bottom of the hill and lots of good memories. It just so happened that Pete from the Who owned the large house with the view across the street and was in and out regularly. He had a beautiful blue Ferrari 550 that he parked outside literally on the street when he was local. Nobody bothered him, just one of the people in Richmond, and heading out for a curry when you saw the lights on across the street you just had to wonder what was going on with the land of Who's Who... Crossed paths directly just once walking down the street but didn't bother him as he looked like just another guy enjoying a walk. Good times.

another version. Steve Stills

S. Stills is one of those massively underrated musicians of his time IMO. An amazing career as a guitarist, writer, and showman in his day but just never was that "Alpha guy" to take over a band as the frontman. It hurts to see how he has degraded these past years and unfortunately time comes for all of us as it has for him. One of the amazing talents of the past 50 years of music.

I've mentioned this previously, and I have nothing against him, but never a great fan of Stills. Many who know his work far better than me agree with your assessment.

It's not very nice, but it always seemed to me that when he wrote "Thrasher," Neil was referring to Stills, Crosby, and a host of other talented 60s refugees who lost their way, wasting that talent in drugs, booze and apathy,

He has lost most of his hearing. He is a favorite of mine

Great good stuff. Thank you for posting.

I have to cop the fact that I was never much of a second wave or third wave or '90s punk fan. I pretty much stuck to that first wave. And even more exclusively, it was pretty much the pistols, clash, and some of the other ancillary bands. The jam again I would never place in the punk context. That's just me.

Anyway great post.

Saw Galaxy 500 back in the day. Good stuff.

Speech to text,

Love this album however Live Rust was my first Neil album...Influential to say the least.

My favorite live album ever.

May I ask, kindly, how old you are? You must have been in your late teens or early 20s back then. David used to run into Peter back then too. That is, before The Who hit it big. 🎯🇬🇧💂‍♂️

✔️

I never bought or even heard much of Live Rust.

I know "Sugar Mountain" from Neil's three album retrospective, Decade, also a live performance. That song, to me, captures youth in all its wonder, pain, and discovery. It's almost too hard to listen to.

Speaking of Decade, which is a great one to pick up if you are new to Neil, one killer rocker, pure proto psychedelia, and two heartbreakers from the Buffalo Springfield years,

I was younger for sure - late 20's at the time.

Powderfinger on Live Rust is outstanding, as is Cortez the Killer. Oh hell, the whole album is fantastic. Neil and The Horse at the height of their powers.
My eldest brother Greg, who is no longer with us, was the one who opened the door to Neil.

You probably know that Neil gave "Powderfinger" to Lynyrd Skynyrd as a peace offering, after the "Alabama" / "Sweet 🏠 Alabama" tiff (sic).

Unsurprisingly, they rejected it.

But I think everything got smoothed out in the end, at least as far as I know. You can see Neil wearing a Lynyrd Skynyrd t-shirt, or perhaps it's the other way round? Like Ronnie has a Neil shirt on? I'm not clear on this.

By the way Gary Rossington just died, which I'm sure everyone knows. I believe he was the last surviving member of Lynyrd Skynyrd.

As for "Cortez the Killer," it's one of my absolute favorite Shakey songs, from one of my top five if not top three favorite Neil albums, Zuma. Both were favorites of my brother Greg's as well,
