I've been watching the Dune miniseries from 2000. The acting is wildly uneven, but it does a great job of following the plot of the book.

Also, the costume department just went f***ing hog-wild. It's incredible.

I don't have a set list and I'd come up with a different list every time, but some of my favorite movies:

Good Will Hunting
The Raid: Redemption
The Raid 2
Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (Ewoks are fine you curmudgeons)
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Game Night
The Dark Knight
Snatch
The Gentlemen
Stranger Than Fiction
Transformers: Dark of the Moon (I don't need your permission to turn off my brain)

Film snob daughter went to see Everything Everywhere All at Once and came back with effusive praise. I've watched exactly one movie in a theater since March of 2020 (Almodovar's excellent Parallel Mothers), but I think I might head out to see that one this week.

Michelle Yeoh is a supreme badass.

This, so much this. After an almost 3-year wait, the first episode of S3 drops tonight:

Season 4 is written but the last source I had found said that shooting had not yet started when the report was written in March.

Caught a matinee with the wife. It's completely bonkers. It leans into its maximalism a little too heavily right up until it turns powerfully cathartic. Could trim 20 minutes and probably would have been a stronger film. Acting is top notch, though. Yeoh is great, as expected, but so are Curtis, Hsu, Quan, and Hong. Can't believe that James Hong is not only still kicking at 93 but also seems to have barely aged.

A movie guessing version of Wordle, as they claim. They give you a still and you try to guess the movie. You get six guesses, with six different stills. I got today's in two guesses and I'm not sure I'm proud of that

I actually have yet to see the 9th fast and furious. but they're gonna be going on forever, when vin diesel is done, they're just gonna pass it off and do fast and furious the next generation or something.

I got this one in one. Pretty stoked about that

The final episodes of Ozark will drop in less than 3 hours.

I loved the utter hell out of this movie. Within 15 minutes the insanity starts and everyone on the screen has brought their A game. If "sci/fi action family dramedy with flying butt plug impalement and raccoon puppets" doesn't sell you on this then I probably won't be able to talk to you about entertainment at all.

I saw The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent yesterday while waiting for my tires to be replaced after a trench of a pothole destroyed them the night before. The first half hour kind of drags but once the CIA gets involved we're off to the races. The mancrush that develops between Cage and Pedro Pascal's character is so god damn adorable. I wouod be surprised if they're not real life BFFs after making this movie because they are FANTASTIC together. This movie gets meta about filmmaking the exact same way that Seven Psychopaths did with novel writing. God I need to see that movie again too.

I’ve seen all but a handful of Ghibli films, and yesterday I watched one I hadn’t seen — from 1995. I’ve got to say, it’s in the upper echelon. I read it was maybe the most underrated, but I really wasn’t expecting it to be quite as good as it was, especially in its subtleties and characters. The fantastical action elements really amount to 5 minutes of the main character writing a book. It’s more a slice of life, coming of age story about a teenager in modern Tokyo navigating school, writing, relationships.
