I'll re-iterate what I said a few months ago now that I have seen him play a few times in the OHL:

He is the forward version of Jarred Tinordi. Took the exact same path to the OHL, came as a "project" first rounder. Ended up playing for the Hunters at 18 years old. Many were expecting instant brilliance but were met with the reality that he's in a very good league and getting his feet wet and would look run-of-the-mill for several months before taking major steps.

I'll judge McCarron much more on next season than this one. But the playoffs will be an important time for him.

People were writing Tinordi off after his 1st half season in the OHL. Kids need time, esp the bigger ones it seems.

I really really like the above (thanks for that, Tim Wallach). So, so true.
I'm also thinking McCarron is the forward version of J.Tinordi. Both are so tall, so big, so full of potential. Both were also drafted in similar spots in the First Rnd as project players.

Just have to be patient.

Took approx. 2-3 years before some were saying great things about J.Tinordi.
(many were even losing hope in J.Tinordi a couple of years ago...some even today here on HF are including him in many fantasy trade talks... imo the future of our defense is counting a lot on PK Subban - of course - and...J.Tinordi, we just have to remember...J.Tinordi may need a bit more time to develop properly...he may need 21min. in Hamilton... I believe in J.Tinordi and our d-core badly needs a 6'7 dman like J.Tinordi).

Go McCarron Go!! (take your time in growing, learning, adapting and slowly but surely...developing properly).

I feel like we need him to start acting and being more like Joe Pesci from the movie "casino" . No but in all seriousness I do agree with you.

Yes its early so we shall see. People have to keep in mind that Yes Tinordi has good potential to be a good Defensive d men, but at this point he has not done anything in the NHL outside of a few good pre-season games which included some nice hits.

Seriously? Tinordi's played 14 NHL games...he's a defensive defenseman...what exactly are you expecting?

Guys give him some time he had a great camp and instead of saying he sucks and all go say that about collberg, hudon, bozon, and thw whole gang who is sucking so far. Its known effect that players going from the big camp back to juniors go through dark periods its human nature now comes back in 3 months and I may be more worried.

I hope Eugenie Bouchard publicly rejecting him on Twitter didn't shatter his confidence. Guy needs to beat up Jordan Caron in a fight or something.

McCarron is to Lucic what Gill is to Chara

I like your poetic style and your statement is more true then NOT.
People have to remember Gill was a good d-man in his time but did not have all the tools like Chara.....so if McCarron can develop into a good 3 or 4th liner we will be happy.
Listen Bos got lucky taking Lucic in the 2nd round just like we did when we got PK

And maybe our Lucic will be Crisp and not McCarron :sarcasm:

McCarron will change a LOT in the next 3 years. He wont be a scorer but he will park himself in front of the opposing goalie and create so many chances to score for others. Just his size and attitude is a bonus and will take him a long way.

I'm going to have to completely disagree with those who don't think McCarron is a physical player because...well, he is.

Sure, he hasn't been laying highlight reel open ice bodychecks or beating the pulp out of every single tough guy the OHL has to offer, but he's a possession monster and he finishes his checks all the time. Every single player that has taken a run him so far has ended up on their ass. Plus, he's really only gotten two games to show off his level of "meanness" as he suffered a shoulder injury that forced him to miss time. We don't know how much this restricts him in his ability to play physical. Apart from two games, I don't think it has as he's laid some huge hits along the boards.

Hockey-wise, he's clearly still a project (I know, shocking). McCarron's a big guy with a nifty set of mitts that he's doesn't use nearly enough to go along with a howitzer of a shot that he's still learning how to get on net with consistency. He's got lots of good tools, but he still has to put it together. Clearly, it's going to take some time, so don't hit the panic button yet people. But I guess I shouldn't expect anything less at this point.
