that sounds more like fantasy than rumour

Yeah. The time for management to have been changed was before all these wholesale changes were made, and if either of them had discontent to that level it would've been expressed well before now.

The one part that has gone very right (imo) is drafting, and that's the most important thing you want to go right.

Drafting in this current management era (Benning), did not start out well - Virtanen in 2014 then Juolevi in 2016, and my interest in the team was really waning. I posted very little in HF Boards. Then the drafting started to get a lot better (I didn't know it at the time of course), and Boeser came on to the scene and made things a bit interesting as he went on to be a Calder finalist. At the same time Boeser was having a stellar rookie year, our 2017 1st round draft pick was dominating in the SHL, and my interest in the team really picked up.

The next season after Pettersson's Calder win, Quinn Hughes comes in and is a Calder finalist, then Hoglander has a fantastic rookie season 0 4th best on the Canucks in 5 on 5 production, now we have Podkolzin and Rathbone coming in, along with Garland. This team is deep at forward now. Much better than 19/20 imo.

This is the 1st season (since being on this board) I've felt really compelled to defend some aspects of what the management group has done, and felt compelled to defend the young group, which a lot of people like to downplay ie "every team has young pkayers".

I haven't posted really frequently up until now, because I haven't felt this optimistic in a while. This is a good team that is greatly improved over the 19/20 team, and will easily make the play-offs.
JB has drafted some gems, for sure. Whether the credit goes to him for each individual pick, we'll probably never know.

But if drafting is his one bright spot since coming in...then why the hell does he trade so many picks away?

It sort of takes away the amazing drafting argument when the dude doesn't care about holding onto picks.

Part of effective drafting is to give yourself high pick volume to make sure you get the guys that you want and to have a higher chance at hitting on later round picks.

Aside from the shock of hearing Henrik was spending lots of time with Weisbrod technically this shouldn't be surprising. Weisbrod was technically in charge of the scouting staff the same way Gilman was previously.

Wisebrod shouldn’t be in charge of watching paint dry.

Yeah. He's been "heavily involved" with scouting as of 2 seasons ago.

Wonder if having the guy who scouted "the next Nieuwendyk" more heavily involved caused any sort of issues with other personnel.

Really gets the noggin joggin'.

Yeah seems pretty masturbatory honestly, but damnit I'm just looking for something to believe in
My recent hope has been that the Sedins are as smart as executives as they were players which means OEL turns the clock back eight years and Poolman turns into Tanev.

Who ever said that he wanted Glass?

Patrick Johnston: Are the Canucks and Judd Brackett headed in different directions? | Saltwire

The solid reviews Benning, Brackett and the scouting team have garnered over their last three drafts is a testament to a collaborative approach. Collaborative can also mean forceful debates. Take, for example, the discussions around picking Elias Pettersson in 2017.

Linden acknowledged after how forcefully Brackett and co. argued in favour of taking the Alien with the fifth overall pick that year. The alternative was Cody Glass.
How does the Canucks’ pathway, both in terms of on-ice performance and the revenue stream, look over the past two years if we’re living in a Glass universe?

The Provies: The Midsummer Classic, including the Hughes thing, the Wise thing, the Cloutier thing and that showdown thing | The Province

To make EP happen, there were those in the organization who really had to lobby.

“There were some heated debates in our meetings after we knew we were going to be at five,” Linden said, looking back to ’17. “The conviction those guys showed … They fought hard.”

Oh yeah it's baffling.

There's a rumor floating around twitter (most likely untrue) that EP/QH are pushing ownership to make a management change before they'll sign, to see some fans reactions to that would be very interesting.

You could have stopped there.

5 picks that are good over 7 damn years makes our drafting “good” when half of them were top 10 picks is an absolute mockery of what good drafting is.
Benning finds hidden gems tho, like Gaudette and Forsling. After they are traded we confirm that tho they were EXCELLENT picks they selfishly didnt listen to management and developed incorrectly so Benning turned them into great assets.....

I didn't think it was news that the Brackett issue was a power struggle between Weisebrod and Brackett.

Classic parasite c-suite exec behaviour for the execs that are awful at their job and make up for it in politics.
