Three Halak's will get you one Holtby! (course, that's like three helpings of Rotten Ronalds.).

I was thinking about his ridiculously easy performance bonuses that he could stink up the joint and still hit.

But how can that happen? We've got ace executive John Weisbrod on the payroll!

$3 million.

The absolute insanity of pushing half of that contract into 22-23 when the team should be trying to escalate into a competitive window is something that has been hugely under-reported.

The way that contract was reported reminded me of how the JT Miller trade was "Mazanec, a 3rd, and a conditional pick for JT Miller"

"Halak 1 year 1.5MM*" oh cool

*bonus that guarantees it'll be at least 2.75MM

My bad. I missed that part. I guess I should've known by now what to expect from DimJim & Co.

Not commenting on the merits, but they reportedly did that to protect against a Petey offer sheet.

Halak has a NMC as well. If he comes in and is terrible, he's staying Vancouver. So he'll definitely hit the 10 game, 1.25m bonus.

Nah it's cool because Luongo's penalty is coming off the books next year.

Few things are more hilarious than the fact that Luongo's penalty will be coming off the books ... only for us to be spending even more in 22-23 for goalies not to play for us.

Got to recoup the recapture penalty somehow.

On Feb 22,2020..the Canucks beat the best team in the NHL (Boston Bruins..9-3 score)..That win put the Canucks within 2 points of the Pacific division lead, with 2 games in hand.

Markstrom got injured, and they proceeded to go on an ill timed slump (as young cores have a tendency to do), losing 5 out of their next 6......Slumps don't last forever, and they were clearly working their way out it...winning 2 of their last 3.

My sample size is 61 games..yours is 8.

Maybe the agenda is all yours?

Boston was playing the second half of a back to back on the road, and playing at 10pm in their local time. It was also one of their 6 wins in their last 17 games. They were clearly slumping down the stretch, and we need a bigger sample size than 3 games where they had a regulation win, loss, and shootout win to really know if they were breaking out of it.

Arguing about 2020 is kind of beating a dead horse anyways. They probably would of finished with in 3 points of the playoff bar either way, and doesn't really change the good and bad of that season.

It was a good season, a turning point..IMO...I was really proud of the team, the way they battled in the playoffs..

I would have preferred they just finish the Holtby contract, but I actually admire that they used a bit of creativity here, finally, even if the total price is a bit steeper than I’d want.

Was it creativity? I compare it to the "creativity" I used when I was 21 and couldn't afford a big-screen TV and just got a Brick credit card so I could pay for most of it 14 months later instead.

Eh, creative isn’t always smart or wise.
