It will be interesting to see if Blake just negated the "new coach bump" by doing this 10 days before the next game AND if appointing an assistant to the interim coach means he actually has LESS control over the cretins.

Because what happened today is EXACTLY what happened to Stevens, and we saw what happened to that team with Kovabois.

The team said it is "for the remainder of the season" when it was announced.

The Kings naming an assistant coach as the interim head coach for the rest of the season is only a hair removed from my feeling that Blake was going to step behind the bench.

This is the first real public fracture between Blake and Robitaille. I think we all assume that the boys club is in lock step. But over the past 3 seasons we’ve seen enough evidence to suggest otherwise.

I think there are two camps at play. The Luc camp and the Rob camp. Hockey ops is the Rob’s camp and they have the numbers. Business ops is Luc’s camp and he’s where the buck stops for ownership.

What I’m curious to see in the next week is how the media mouthpieces spin this. Because that will shed light on the obvious breakdown in the franchise. It is clear that the discord is throughout the organization. From players through management across the NHL and AHL teams.

Blake is talking to the media on Monday. Just happens to be the same day as the hockey Canada scandal press conference. It’ll be short and sweet, but let’s see if some members of the press ask Rob to explain the rationale for completely changing his mind after just a couple weeks. That will be the core of the spin and let’s see who he puts the onus on.

My guess is he’s going to obliquely pin this on the guys that Todd publicly reprimanded. Which makes me assume that Blake is going down with this ship. His only hope of retaining his job is making the playoffs. The second that isn’t possible to happen, he surfs off into retirement.

I would bet on Luc surviving this round. Biggest turd float to the top. And hey, he’s only on his first GM. I’m sure he deserves a second hire after the disaster he took over from the previous guy.

I'm just glad they canned DL and hired Blake because they absolutely had to make the move then because Blake was such a hot commodity that they couldn't afford to lose him to another team.

That spin pissed me off then and it's been proven as spin with each passing year. What a brilliant GM. Does what any of us could have done by tanking and then basically f***s himself and the franchise by ruining the fruits of said tanking.

It DOES sort of feel like Hiller being named interim til season’s end is ownership telling Blake, while pointing at Hiller, “that’s your racehorse. Pray he wins.” Like he couldn’t even manage a Boudreau (or whoever) interim hiring?

He’s out of bullets and it is starting to show. He might get the axe as a nice June birthday present to me.

It’s too out there that Blake doesn’t want to go down like DT. The guy has too much pride to see his reputation tarnished during the final hours.

Blake will do the thing he’s best at. Which is doing nothing. It’s being broadcast loud and clear that he thinks it’s on the players, it’s not the coach and Arvidsson to a major degree plus Lizotte to a minor one are the only changes to be made.
 
You can't really be surprised this wasn't coming. The entire month felt like a non stop losing streak; You have to think the OT record also played into this. 3-10 is dreadful, even the Hawks aren't his bad.

The dude is already more tarnished than a silver platter sitting unwrapped in a damp basement. Blake has already surpassed McMaster as worst GM in Kings history.

Ah you are correct sir- That does indeed seem like throwing in the towel on the season. Wow.

Unless Hiller is the second coming of Mid-season Berube? Otherwise, like, why bother?
