Honestly, I think the issue is he never had to work to be the best growing up. He was bigger and better naturally. There was a lack of work ethic in him. This year, it seems he has realized that he needs to put in work to elevate his game. He is playing with more effort, determination and its leading to some better results. Will he continue to ? To be seen but I wouldn't bet to heavily against him

Yes, no offense but you aren’t a fan of the team and don’t know what you are saying. I watch virtually every game. He’s been in the top six like 30% of the time. He got some chances, but it never lasted. He’s gotten the least leash of any 1OA in recent memory. I don’t know how that’s in any way debatable. You get guys like Bedard and Hughes that are 1st line and PP1 from the get-go. If they have 10 bad games, or in Hughes case a bad first season, it doesn’t change. Lafreniere has maybe had like 3 games in his career on PP1 and maybe like 10 games on line 1.
Still not buying it at all. Every stat I’ve been able to dig up on it has him averaging pretty solidly in the 2nd line range. And every game I’ve tuned in over the last few years (and many I have- I’ve been eager to see how he develops..) he’s had 1st/2nd level line mates. Right now he’s next to Trochek and Panarin.. that’s 3rd line level? Is there something you can show other than a blanket ‘you dont know’? Actual data backs up what I’ve observed, so you gotta come up with something better to refute that..

Watching him tonight after 1st period.. he looks exactly the same as what I’ve seen since he began in the NHL. He floats, stiff/weak legs, poor balance, not playing good positionally, had a few give aways, -1. Simply does not pass the eye test and certainly doesn’t pass the ‘stat test’ if you wanna call it that.

Tell me what I’m missing?

Same old same old. He can score goals on a lucky bounce or if all the work is done for him. Oh, and he also has that one crossover move.

He was never going to be an outright bust IMO. Wake me up when he becomes more than a complimentary shooting option though.
