OT: The Holiday Thread

We got the Christmas tree today and figured out that everyone here gets their trees before Thanksgiving. $92. Insanity.

Definitely a lot different than at home where you can go to a local parking lot and they have someone helping you the whole time and will tie the tree to the roof for you. We got a decent sized one that fit in the car.

$92, woof.

Did Faneuil hall move their Xmas tree? I was at my work Christmas party at the state room and was excited to take a picture of the tree but it wasn’t in that round area in front of quicy market. I haven’t been there since 2019 but it was there then.

I live in NH and I don't know current going MA prices but I haven't gotten mine yet so idk the prices where I am either lol
Let me know! My sister bought a wreath from a vendor who comes down from Michigan every year to sell trees ect.

Out here they start decorating for Christmas after Halloween.

I can absolutely understand putting lights up outside in October because it is still warm and the winds are light. Anything else must wait until the day after Thanksgiving. My mom paid a company to put her lights up and then after Christmas they will take them down and store them for her until they come next year.

The service did the roof line and mom did the porch

looks super classy, enough lights and hung perfectly, a little jealous here

I want to like National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation more than I do.

I watched it again yesterday.

I like it, but I don’t love it.
I prefer the original movie.

I just want to talk about it.

Watched A Christmas Story Christmas.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Its done the same way as the original. A narrator and campy things as seen in Ralphie’s imagination. Funny at times. Heartwarming as it pays a homage to Ralphie’s dad. I think anyone of us that has an empty chair on the holidays can feel the pull on the heartstrings.

Ralphie is still Ralphie. Just grown up.

I liked it. For the nostalgia. For the memories.

Best Christmas movie ever IMO. That and Bad Santa. I like Elf, A Christmas Story and the Jim Carey Twas the Night Before Christmas. Sprinkle in the original Miracle on 34th St. Also, I'm going to say it, "It's a Wonderful Life" is overrated. Sorry not sorry.

we offset then. I think Home Alone sucks.

😂
I can see where all the slapstick violence wouldn't appeal to everyone, but Home Alone 1 was really well-written and had heart. There's a list somewhere online someone compiled of like the 17 distinct events that all had to occur for Kevin to wind up being left at home and the film addressed every one of them, so no "how do they just forget a kid?" plot hole.

I have a soft spot for Home Alone 2 since I was like 7 when it came out, but it does not hold up as well as a film. There's no reason for Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern to be there other than plot convenience, it's much more improbable, etc. Just John Hughes getting lazy and cashing in on a quick sequel before Macauley Culkin hit puberty. Still love it though. Merry Christmas, you filthy animal!

In the days of cell phones though, both these movies would be about 7 minutes long and ended with a call to the local police department.

My favourites are Christmas Vacation, Scrooged, The Santa Clause and A Christmas Story. Those are must watches in our family.
