OT: The Holiday Thread

This is a good'un. Annoying that the full version has never been released on VHS/DVD/Streaming. Thank God for YouTube.

Muppet Christmas Carol is a must watch every year for me. A classic, and still the best Muppet production made since Jim's passing.

My left-field annual festive movie treat is Joyeux Noel, about the Christmas truce in 1914 during WW1. The reviews were mixed, but I think it's outstanding.

Favorite Scrooge movie?

Gotta say with George C Scott followed by MIchael Cain (Muppets)

Did not care for Patrick Stewart (not surly or rough looking enough)
Also not a fan of Sims (hey it's my opinion)

I went to a Christmas party Sunday, it was the first time friends & I had been able to get together in over 2 years.

We watched "A Christmas Story Christmas". It was pretty good though it was weird to see Peter Billingsley, when I think of him he's 9 year old Ralphie. Now of course he's an adult.

Worst Christmas song ever recorded? From 1965

Wow, this is super political, albeit historically. So I won't comment further other than to say that it's a really interesting piece, and it has a certain jarring, shocking effectiveness, although I could see arguments both ways for it being either cutting and clever or simply outright tasteless. Not what I was expecting!

I vote for the John Lennon song...who says happy christmas? I think it's just a protest song

Happy Christmas is said by Brits, of which Lennon was one. Merry Christmas fell out of favor over there because the royals didn't like the lower class connotations of "merry" and started using Happy Christmas. Us Americans love lower class connotations.

In Boston, a WBZ DJ smashed the record on air and because of that WMEX boosted its rotation.

Ironically, perhaps the two worst Christmas songs that get overplayed on the radio every year are by Lennon and McCartney respectively

McCartney's horrible Christmas song may be the worst song ever written, period.

I'm convinced that he wrote it on a dare, like his friends were joking with him about how he could probably turn the laziest, most crappily produced song into a smash hit on his name recognition alone, so he went over to the piano and wrote the song in 4 minutes.

I can tolerate it

How about other novelty songs, Chipmunks, I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas, etc ?
I am pretty...forgiving. I always have liked The Chipmunks, even that one. I like "Grandma got Runover by a Reindeer."

Now that you mention it though, Springsteen's "Santa Clause is Coming to Town"- while laughing-stinks. Then again, I do not care for Springsteen too much.

I agree with all that....the grandma song was way better than the cartoon....that was awful

Favorite Christmas song?

I'm a traditionalist so I have to got with O Holy Night, and What Child is this

I also wonder if the people in 1818 in Obendorff Austria had any idea Silent Night was destined to be a classic, or if they just thought yeah that was nice

I`m sorry, I needed a laugh and this was it
