We all know Kampf is a good shut down center but you can't be paying a 4th liner 2.4 mil.

This reminds me of the Kruger contract. He was a very good player but not worth 3+ mil a season. (and that was with a lesser cap)

I know good 4th liners want all the money they can get but a contender can't afford to be paying that. We found out the hard way. Leafs will too.

3rd line Cs have offense to their game. He plays 3rd line mins, but he isn't a 3rd line C.

He's a real good fourth liner. He's a luxury a team counting cap dollars like Toronto shouldn't prioritize.

Not really, imho. That's the kind of contract I'd have no issues for a cap floor-ish team, but for a contender with a narrow margin for error with their cap and a questionable championship window like the Leafs? Not very good.

Kruger was different because that contract was thank you from 1 year contract he made before.

He's a good 4th liner, a terrible 3rd liner. You don't pay 4th liners 2.5mil, that's where you get into trouble.

Yeah, obviously if it was a team like us, or ARZ, ANA, it would be different. But a team that wants to contend and is needing every dollar available to them, it's a pretty bad signing IMO. They are basically saying they are keeping the band together.

Who are they going to fill in those duties and minutes that Kampf does? They're so top heavy they need to squeeze every ounce of efficiency from their lineup they can.

We're all Hawks fans, we all know what happens when you overpay bottom 6/depth players. I just don't think 2.5m is going to kill them in the year 2023

Go look at the PK minutes from centers on the Leafs and you have your answer as to why they signed Kampf to that deal. I don’t agree with it but I can see why.
