I'm reading that no NHLer has ever played 2 seasons in the NHL after getting this surgery, is that accurate? Nik Backstrom is the latest to get it, and he is questionable for next season by the sounds of it. This might be the beginning of the end for Kaner.

Yeah whenever he's able to come back, he'll likely be a shell of his former self by that point.

Obviously money is not the biggest concern for him at this point but man the timing of this probably going to cost him 10 million or more.

I hope the best, but even 4-6 months sounds hopeful after what Backstrom or Kesler who seemed to have had the same or similar things.

It makes me think we had all this debate about keeping or having Kane/Toews to be there with Bedard, and in the end they may not even be in the league his first half of his rookie year.

Sure hope he's saved some of the $100 mil he's already earned.

Well after taxes and escrow that's maybe like 10 million net :P

Think he should sign a one year deal with Rangers or what not... Then it that all goes well he can come back sort of like Savard

I wonder if this is the same surgery Frank Nazar had for his hip. Although it's a big difference between an 18-19 year old kid having it and bouncing back over a 34 year old.

Would consider bringing him back for the right price if he's willing to extend for a solid AAV, a Reichel-Bedard-Cat would feast...but on the flip side if its a sign and trade the deal would require way too much draft capital/good prospects for a team nowhere near ready to win

That's a good sign. They got names to start their coverage but now stick to people who are good on air.

Hold your vomit in folks, the Oilers are gonna look at Toews in the offseason.

I really wish they’d stop poaching our hall of famers, their organization is still going to suck regardless.

He was good on TV and seemed to be looking into getting more into that part of game, so this is surprising to me

But getting into management side of things could be interesting and if it doesn't work out he can fall back into broadcasting.
Disagree. Sharp was not good on TV. Sure, as an ex-player he had some interesting insights but it was expressed in a rather dull fashion. There was no pizzazz. Better than a Campbell or a Konroyd for example but not by much.

Teams can do a helluva lot worse than having Toews at center position in the bottom 6. An excellent face-off guy and PK specialist who if he ever fully recovers from long covid will have better endurance which is what is holding him back, IMO. Besides, expectations will be much lower than they were in Chicago.

Realistically it’ll be either Nashville or Detroit. Dallas and Vegas don’t have room, and Florida does have room, but should likely focus on fixing their defense.
