A piece of advice if you want good, young players for dirt cheap, get the red 4.5 guys like Rychel,Erne,Ceci,Sprong,Honka. They always work out to be great players for me even though that isn't the point of the red star.

The game badly undervalues red star players - their trade values are always pretty low.

Tyler Myers for example has a dirty cheap trade value, but if you are a good team with decent playoff runs he can get to 89 overall.

Good suggestion - lots of value in red star players.

ANother tip - in free agency, always try and nab those 3.5 red star potential or more who are like 75-77 overall; you can sign them for cheap contracts, and there's a good chance they jump come pre-season when all your players get that jump

It's common for them to jump to like 79-82 overall, and make for some really good 4th line / bottom pairing D / depth players, OR just overall a fantastic piece or two to make your AHL team competitive (which, if you haven't figured out, is a great way to improve development of your young players in the minors).

Yup. I always sign atleast 3-4 of the 3.5 red star potential or more who are like 75-77 overall players. Atleast always 1 of them jumps up to be an 80+, it works great.

Any stories on drafting and developing Leon Draisaitl? He looks like he will be in my range when I draft. Thanks

2018 draft I got a guy named Nelson Bancroft at #2 overall but he was ranked #3.

1 day after the draft he was 4.5 yellow stars 18 years old 6'4 217 sniper and 84 OVR with 95 speed acceleration and agility and over 90 on all of his shooting and OFF awareness.

Absolute beast.

Not so much a prospect, but have a question about Logan Couture, in year 1 and I want him to develop as best as possible. His role is 1st C but Jumbo has that spot locked up. Would it be better to have him stay at his position at C on 2nd line, or stay at his role on the 1st line as LW? Which will help him develop better as a player?

Very well might have been asked before in this thread, but how does Connor McDavid progress? Late 80's? I'm looking to take him in the 15 draft and just want to see how long it takes for him to make that jump to the NHL and progress nicely.

How much will a young 4-green star player jump from year to year? Say he is 77 and 19 years old. What should I expect him to be at the start of next season if he was given top AHL minutes the previous season?

Depends. If you have a guy say like you said at4 green it might be kind of random. He might stay at 77-80 till he is like 22 then strts jumping or maybe a bit quicker

It works differently from player to player. No one set rule.

However, a 19 year old 77 overall player with that potential? I would expect him to be NHL ready by the next season - the jump he gets will give him a nice bump.

The reason why I say it works differently from player to lpayer is because it all depends on the player type (OFD, TWD, PWF, etc), and what categories or skills are getting better.

Obviously if a 77 overall sniper gets a 10 point increase in all of his shooting skills, then you can expect a pretty massive jump in overall. However, if that same sniper gets a 10 point increase in a few of the physical categories, then he may only jump in overall by 1 or 2 points. The reverse is probably true if said 19 year old was a Powerforward or a Defensive Dman.

I'm in 2021-2022 season. Matt Rupert is a 87 overall, 3.5 yellow stars and won the rocket Richard last season. Anyone else have a 3.5 yellow prospect turn out to be amazing?

Not any amazing ones, but a lot of the 3.5 yellow star players in my GM Modes get pretty good. Generally mid 80's.

I had Maurice Richard drafted in 2017 and he was 3.5 yellow star sniper. He maxed out as a 86 overall and he won the Maurice Richard trophy with like 65+g's. Btw anyone watched yewys gm's. Islanders drafted goalie named DiPietro 1st overall some year. I think thats not consequence. Anyway how good have you developed 2.5 gold star player. I had that one guy named Ross Cosineau back in the 13. He became 84 overall when I put him into every single line.

Hey guys,

What's the highest you guys have seen Val Nichushkin and Brett Ritchie (both Dallas Stars products) top out at in the BGm's. I'm in year 3 of my Stars BGM, and both have progressed quite slow. Nichushkin won the Calder his rookie season with 75 points, put up 65 points his second year, yet has only progressed from a 77 to a 78 in two years despite great numbers. Ritchie has put up 50+ points each year in the AHL on my top line, yet he is still only at 70 in year 3. I'd be curious to hear what you guys have seen. Much appreciated.

For some reason(EA) Nichushkin never develops and if he does it takes forever. I always edit his potential to 4.5 yellow when I play GM mode. How he only has 4 yellow is beyond me. Even with 4.5 I have only seen him top out around 87-88.

For me, Nichushkin never develops, but for the CPU, he gets to an 85.
