The game that changed everything and other reasons the Panthers are 4 wins away

Bob wasn't benched, he was ill. The Panthers had to call up Mack Guzda to back up Lyon for a stretch of several games, which is why Lyon played the B2B when he stepped in, Guzda has never played in an NHL game and I don't think they feel he's ready for it.

Lyon was hot and playing very well, so PoMo rode him after Bob recovered, though.

They wouldn't even have made it if this goal didn't count, which it shouldnt have. That being said I've been cheering for panthers this entire series and we would have likely lost to Boston.

Eh, a missed regular season point on a bad call can be found pretty much anywhere. The Panthers lost a point because Jonathan Quick, that flopping loser, somehow got a goaltender interference call after he initiated contact with a player who wasn't even in the blue paint.

Maurice had a tough decision. He could show confidence in Bob, a goalie that has played in nine different playoff years and failed dramatically (only a single playoff year where his GAA was less than 2.70; 7 of his nine playoff years he posted a GAA of 3.07 or worse - a playoff choker and clown) or go with the journeyman.

This is where your narrative falls into the ditch. Bob was excellent at times for the Jackets in the playoffs (ask the Bruins and Bolts about 2019), his numbers were just dragged down by a ton of PK time vs the leagues best (almost invariably vs the cup winning team).

Bob was one of the best goalies on the planet for 7 years in Columbus, and he never had any fundamental problem in the playoffs. Just a couple bad showings. For the most part he was good, just not able to put a mediocre club over the cup winner.

Special thanks to the Pittsburgh Penguins for absolutely sucking and losing to 2 of the worst teams in games 81 and 82, making it possible for Florida to even qualify for the playoffs
Pittsburgh was already eliminated before game 82 but go ahead and make up more stuff lol.

Yeah, this is the thread. Pittsburgh fumbles its 17 year streak against bottom feeders Chicago and Columbus saving serial boob Maurice from leading his Stanley Cup team to the golf course.
What did the Columbus OT loss in Game 82 have to do with anything?

Oh right…nothing.

Are you really reaching for a call in a game on March 7? Really?! If the goal was disallowed, the game goes to OT. Are you also assuming Buffalo wins the game in OT to make your ridiculous fantasy stand?

Not going to be considered successful in the playoffs if you give up more than 3 goals/game, which Bob did in 7 of the 9 playoff seasons.

The Bruins also won a game late in the season in overtime vs. the Pens, which more or less sealed their fate.
That was April 1st. The Pens were still in the race on April 11th going into their 81st game versus Chicago at home, they lost 5-2. They then lost in Columbus in OT 3-2. Had they won both of those against bottom feeders they would have had 3 more points, 94 points as 1st WC, pushing the Islanders to 2nd WC and Florida out of the playoffs altogether.

I still can't believe Florida was 1 minute away from being eliminated in G7 in the opening round lol
It's really amazing, they squeaked into the playoffs, just barely survived the Bruins, and have been on a tear since

Because Cats are awesome and if you don't like them, there's something not quite right about you.

Opinion: The longer the VGK-Stars goes on, the worse it is for Panthers.

If the SCF started today, Panthers would just steamroll with their momentum. The longer it takes, the more you have to re-start the machine like Maurice is doing...

It's all about Bob, basically 935 sv percentage is enough to put most teams over the top.

It's not like the Panthers are flat out the better team and just destroying Boston/Toronto/Carolina (even despite the sweep, all the games were very close and a bounce here and there coulda made a world of diff).

It's all about Bob

We had almost a week off before the Carolina series as well. The boys are laser focused and were talking about the work still left to do just yesterday. Time off will not effect them.

Fair enough, but the underdog days are gone and even the Canes games were very close games...
