yeah, the olympics mean something .. this is just a all star game replacement with more steps
Unless the NHL commits to this long term, for a lot of people, they would view this as a one off event.

Probably pair the more offensive guy with a defensive one.

Leaves Hanifin as the 7th. Though, he could take Fabers spot, but have to slide over.

IMO, Team USA is the one to beat. Strength at all three positions.
Canada's forward group is insane (Sam Bennett is an interesting choice, though). Our defense isn't as good as USA's, and our goaltending may be the worst of all four.
Also - I know it would be a gimmick and not really based on merit, but I think it's a huge missed opportunity to have Bedard, Crosby and McDavid all together on this team. Bedard being left off because he can't single handedly dominate games playing with miscellaneous plugs and donuts in Chicago kind of sucks.

Oilers schadenfreude aside, if you don't have a power play to put him on, he's useless. Makar will play the top PP unit and Theodore the second. Every other d-man are much better versatile players overall.

Have not watched much Minny, but MacAvoy is known to throw his weight around, so nice to have that attribute for a Hughes partner. Werenski has enough size to take care of himself, thus doesn't need MacAvoy as much.

I was so busy noticing that Hyman and Skinner got left off, I forgot all about Bouchard.
And yeah - this Team Canada isn't going to have trouble scoring goals. They're going to have trouble giving them up. Bouchard doesn't help with that.

Them going with Parayko (or Tanev or Weegar or something) over Bouchard is not surprising at all.
When you already have Makar it makes Bouchard a lot less valuable.

USA has 3D who can run PP1. All of Fox, Quinn And Werenski.
It’s like 3 games or something. So betting Makar to be there for the full event is a fair bet to make.
Is Montembeault there to appease Habs fans? At least Binnington they can use the Cup winner "reasoning". Probably would have went with Thompson instead.
