They have some excellent two way players including on center, led by Matthews.
Look at the 201X goalies top drafted CAD goalies:
Pickard, visiten, Subban, Fucale, MacDonald, Hart, Dipietro, etc. most didn’t even have a nhl career. Plus it’s expensive and not the best coaching when coming up.

I am very surprised Suzuki didn't make team Canada. He's an incredibly responsible, high IQ two-way player with skill that can play with anyone in any situation. I thought Cirelli - Suzuki - Stone would be the best line at the tournament.
Canada ended up with less centers (6) than they normally do, which is interesting. I thought the lack of left-handed forwards would give Lafreniere or Verhaghe an edge but they seem fine with someone playing their off wing.

this is worse than the asg. at least that game doesn't forego like half of the top-20 scoring leaders
speaking of which, given the big preference for guys that are hot right now, surprised there's absolutely no mention of dylan strome as a snub. top-10 in points, big frame that could be effective on the fourth line. seth jarvis?? nick suzuki would have made more sense in that spot imo, or just don't galaxy brain it and take scheifele

Nobody is forcing you to watch it bro.im no all in but as a kid who grew up playing hockey I'll cheer for the maple leaf all day. We have the best skaters and weak goalies. Should have included the Czechs and made it 5. f*** people whine a lot.

Not sure why it being gimmicky would mean they would not want their best forward.
Also just my opinion but I don’t find shit very gimmicky. Quite the opposite in fact.

I would've selected Scheifele over Bennett.
Dobson over Sanheim/Parayko, and Thompson over Montembeault. I see what hockey Canada was trying to do here by putting a Stanley Cup winning pedigree team together, but it honestly just looks like John Coopers favorites and not actually the best possible team they could've iced.
The roster is okay. Could've been better imo.

they can only use nhl players and no other country has a full roster of nhlers. well except one but...

I watched the last one of these with that Team North America. It was awesome hockey.

It's underdiscussed but Sweden consistently makes the dumbest national team selections. This goes back to leaving a 30-goal scorer of the 2010 Olympic roster in favor of SHLers.

Because Russians would have enough players to make their own competitive team.
They could have done it for the Czech Republic by using a few AHL/NHL tweeners. There are enough guys on NHL contracts.
