OT: The Food & Drinks Thread (Part 5)

Got it!

Is it a loss if one has never heard or thought about it:dunno:

I can,but the mrs would shoot me for ruining a great piece of meat. It was not intended for this use,but TETO I guess.

Is it really ruining it if it tastes great? It's not like you're doing a shepherd's pie with a ribeye A5 wagyu or something.

Perhaps not ruined, but a waste of a piece of meat that is great without all the bells and whistles. Sometimes less is better, keep it simple. Some People get overly intricate with food when it's just not necessary. Again IMO and TETO.

Had some ground beef leftover and made this, been a while but always tasty, and can make it as hot as you desire:thumbu:

Mayo... that’s a new one for me. Gonna have to check that out.

Some other recipes for more classical non-spicy ramen:

They also have some videos on udon, rice bowls, tofu, spam, eggs, shrimps ,tuna etc.

Pretty good when you feel Asian and want to try relatively easy to make stuff.

Tried a gumbo hack/shortcut,alright. Still needed to add more depth, flavor and heat.would like to actually get my hands on some file powder to see how that comes into play.

We've had several posts about Uncle Roger in this thread and prior versions.

Was wondering if any of you had a favorite clip of his? I watched a couple of videos and I find that his voice and intonation just draw you in and keep you watching. You also get to learn a lot from his recommendations.

In addition, he's just so funny, whether or not he's talking about food. He's the type of guy that should be brought in to do spoofs on comedy shows or even on a sports broadcast, reading from a script, berating someone for poor form. Imagine having this guy during a hockey intermission.

Only watched his food videos. Soured a bit on him due to the removed video with Mikey Chen (for reasons we cannot discuss here).

Interesting. Was really looking for food videos, didn't realize he was doing other stuff.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll try to find out for myself what happened with Mikey Chen.

If you type "Mikey Chen Uncle Roger" it should pop up. It's been reported on a few media website.

Thanks, that's exactly what I did and it came up. Even the deleted video is available as it was shared on multiple platforms. Too bad this happened as he seemed to be well liked. Hopefully he'll redeem himself.

Finally got my goody baskets's from Japan with an array of items that should keep me content and for quite some time. Now I can make some true sushi and curry's and whole lot of other things:vhappy:
Hopefully the mrs can make it sooner than later though:crossfing

One of the greatest weekends of my life was in Vegas April 2010, watched AC/DC on the Friday night at the MGM and then on the Sunday sat at Emirils eating Gumbo all day and drinking til the flight out of town watching Phil win the Masters for his wife battling breast cancer. Know it’s not the same as traditional Deep South Gumbo but tasted like heaven that weekend

Of course I'm familiar with Pappy. It's the rarest bourbon on Earth. I have 3 bottles in my safe box right now. Two 23yo and a much rarer 27yo. About 10K worth. @Runner77 , why do you ask?

The distillery only releases 8,000 bottles per year, so you can understand why each is highly coveted.

Only asked further to watching an interview with the author of Pappyland on Seth Meyers’ show, extolling its virtues.

Believe it or not, the actual bourbon isn't all that great. About average. I'd take Woodford Reserve over Pappy.

I got it as an investment. Even empty bottles of Pappy sell for $200-$300. My 27yo was appraised at 5.5K last year (since they don't make those anymore).

I thought what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas? and you broke the code!:jk:

That sounds like a great time, some weekend! Aside from Phils wife's situation. Some great food in Vegas and have probably had better gumbo not in Louisiana oddly. So many variations and as many as I have attempted, just isn't as good as some places I've eaten, must be the file powder missing:dunno:

If you’ve watched Restaurant Impossible, you’d probably rarely eat at restaurants when they reopen post-Covid or you’d only limit yourself to those that have a proven track record of cleanliness and quality ingredients. The stuff that’s going on in a lot of places is abhorrent.

Last time I was in Vegas I got so shit-faced that when I saw a hobo sleeping on the overwalk I ran to the nearest restaurant and bought him a bowl of chilli. Let me tell you - he was not happy when I woke him up with it.
