I was looking to see what was out there on the pepper mill market. I own a small Trudeau brand model that grinds nicely but have to fill it often. Not a huge deal, it works.

The gold standard to me was always Peugeot mills. You can get one for $50 or so, depending on size.

Just the other day, I’ve noticed a new player pimping an aluminum mill for $200:

What we bought: How a $200 pepper mill became my favorite kitchen gadget | Engadget

If you wait long enough in any industry, someone will come up with a high end product that supposedly solves an irritant. In this case, it saves you multiple turns compared to a regular mill.

What I’ve also learned is that Peugeot have amazing mills but if you grind peppercorns too close to a steaming or hot dish, the steam will eventually screw up the grinding mechanism. And that Peugeots have 6 settings so you can really set the size of your flakes.

But, do I really need to buy a Peugeot or that aluminum one? Not until my trusty little mill keeps working.

How important is a quality pepper mill in your kitchen?

Never gave a thought to the product but do have Peugeot items, came in a gift basket when I bought one of their cars decades ago. The salt and pepper ones are about this big.................I'm holding my hands abut a foot apart,no complaints really.

The one for 200,must have setting for fellatio:nod:

It's vegan, considering all that, its okay. Not as good as other pies on our menu, obviously.
To each their own though no? I like it with just cheese, sauce, pepperoni, green peppers and mushrooms and I prefer to make my own,it's the best!:thumbu::thumbu:

I picked up a coffee grinder like this in Greece about 30 years ago and love it. Cost me about 4.00

So,about a thousand drachmas.
You can still see them from time to time at some Panigiri's.

As much as I hate Gatineau, my favorite pizza is from José Pizza in Gatineau. Haven't been since I moved to Montreal 10 years ago, but never found anything in Montreal that actually hit the spot. Closest I found was Martini Pizzeria on Lajeunesse.

No it's not Italian style pizza.
Been 4-ever but Coronet in V-S-L was good as was Ouest Anonio in Laval.

I just went to measure and I guess depending where you start from, it's about 6.5-7" tall.

I use a funnel when filling it. My wife doesn't but she's far more careful about doing it than I would be, so she doesn't spill when filling it.
I use a turkey baster with the top removed, made the bottom hole bigger though, kind of a specialty of mine:laugh:

The important is to not get caught in boxes and try new things between those favorites.

I'm a seasoned veteran,tried enough to know what I like and don't.
Ive probably spent over 35k hours in different kitchens, working with different ingredients and different people and I still learn a lot and tastes different things.

My guess is that you are not as seasoned as you think 😉 Keep an open mind.

I could probably guarantee you that I've tried more unique, unusual foods than you even ever heard of. I'll try almost anything once.............. when it comes to food:naughty:

Coronet is still as good as ever. Uses top-notch ingredients. Jimmy knows how to bake a great pie.

I still miss the old Ville St. Laurent Pizzeria.

I took the plunge and bought a quality pan, made by a Canadian company in Italy.

Waited for a Black Friday discount. Free shipping. Ordered it in white: Everything PanMeringue

Getting it by next week.

Shopped at Winners and didn’t like any of the made in China pans. The ones they had that were not made in China, cost close to the price of a Kilne.

Dunno where to post this really but if any fans here like to go to the McKibbins basement bar, RIP to Kevin the barman. He was the best. Making the best Bloody Cesar's and Gin&Tonic. Crazy fun memories pregaming and after the games at the Bell Centre!

Beloved Montreal bartender passes away after tragic bicycle accident | News
Thanks for sharing the news of his passing.

I looked him up online and realized how beloved he was. He had a special talent in knowing how to interact with patrons of varied backgrounds.

I was also curious about the details of his biking accident as we’ve seen countless stories of motorists causing tragedies but this was not one of them. It’s no less sad that it happened further to an accidental event not involving another driver:

Details are sketchy given Kevin was the only person involved, but it seems, with heavy rain making taxis and Ubers scarce, he opted to rent a Bixi – one of Montreal’s summertime rent-a-bikes – to get home. Sadly, he somehow lost control of the bike; perhaps one of Montreal’s infamous potholes played a sinister role. The result was emergency brain surgery, followed by two weeks in a medically induced coma, and ultimately the decision, no doubt on doctors’ recommendations, to remove life support and allow Kevin to pass peacefully.

I unfortunately never had the privilege of knowing him or going to his bar but from many accounts, he seemed to have been a real nice guy — and losing one is always painful. RIP.

Threw a part recently. Made some custom cocktails for it. The one that came back huge though was something I called the King of Pain.

- one shot rum ( feel free to add more)
- half a glass cran-cherry (Ocean Spray)
- half a glass ginger ale

Damn, it was great. It’s sweet so if that not your thing move on but I had guests who drank it all night.

Had one tonight and… it was terrific. Definitely added to my cocktail rotation. The cherry flavour is what really makes it unique. And it was surprisingly painless. :)

I’ve been using this mix for my hamburger patties. Tried it with veal and also with beef, and was delicious both times. I didn’t use onion powder and garlic powder cause I don’t have them but worked well regardless. Tempted to buy the missing ingredients for next time. Used Panko.

I didn’t follow the quantities, I used my ingredients liberally. Melted processed cheese and cheddar on top.

Anyone use a similar mix or do you have your own?
