The English Lower League thread (Part 2)

It's kinda funny because Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney obviously want to be 'the good guys' but in the context of non-league football, they were basically oil sheikhs with the resources they poured into the attempt to get back to the league. I watched the TV show and it's well done, and obviously Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have personalities that are pretty attractive, witty and personable etc.

There's of course a certain randomness to it. I think they picked a non-league club because it'd be a smaller investment to start with, because they're obviously not 'tycoon' level rich. But they picked Wrexham the same way a guy may pick a team to start a game with on FM. So they basically parachute in, and of course, it represents a huge alteration to the competitive landscape of that league where 1 million is a very big sum.

It's one of those things where it's like, no matter how smart they go about it and how good their intentions are, they're still an alien body in that organism. It's like a kinder, gentler and much smaller version of the Saudis at NUFC, but really fundamentally the same thing.

I tried to click on a thread page and got hit with Ryan Reynolds' face - again. And that's when it hit me: I can't stand seeing that guy anymore. He's f***ing everywhere. Mind you, I'm not trying to judge him as a person or actor. I don't think I've ever seen anything he's been in.

Blackburn on the brink now as Luton took the lead. Luton has come out for the 2nd half with much more energy.

Blackburn now throw Bradley Dack on the pitch.

Deadpool is pretty fun

Blackburn level at 85th min, keeping their hopes alive.

Blackburn hit underside of the bar at 92nd minute with a great shot, but it then bounced just down on the line.

League One season was completed today, Plymouth are the champions earning 101 points, Ipswich Town join them in the Championship next season. Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley, Bolton and Peterborough are in the playoffs, Derby County miss out after losing at Sheffield, Portsmouth after their hot start finish 8th

Forest Green Rovers, Accrington Stanley, Morecambe and MK Dons go down; Cambridge saved themselves winning over the already relegated FGR while MK Dons couldn't beat Burton who had little to play for.

The playoffs start May 12/13

Peterborough vs. Sheffield Wednesday
Bolton vs. Barnsley

After a 100+ point season, Notts County were very close to losing their National League semifinal against Boreham Wood, they were losing 2:0 but got a 97th minute equalizer and eventually won the game in ET, scoring minutes before penalty kicks

Swear to god, Notts County look like they have more supporters than Manchester City ... equalizer in the last minute of regular time, winner in the last minute of extra time, what drama

Blackburn score out of nothing to equalize at Millwall, currently WBA in the playoffs with these results. Coventry winning at Boro atm only makes 6th place in play

Two quick goals for Millwall, Blackburn goalkeeper with a huge mistake on the first win. Setting up to be not much drama on the final day

League Two results are in

Automatic promotion
Leyton Orient
Stevenage
Northampton

Playoff
Stockport County v Salford
Carlisle v Bradford City

Relegated
Hartlepool
Rochdale

Salford made the playoff with a goal difference just 1 better than Mansfield.....

Sunderland take the lead at Preston, puts some pressure on Coventry to get a result at Boro. Millwall still leading but Blackburn cut the lead

Blackburn equalize! What a finish by Brereton after a nice passing spell, now things on its head again

Edit: they almost score immediately again, hit the post and the rebound was an open net miss

Currently Sunderland, WBA and Millwall all on 69 points with Sunderland having the better GD. Blackburn still alive but they must win and by multiple goals

10 minutes to go and Coventry, Sunderland currently through. Millwall need a winner but it’s Blackburn most likely to score but they cannot make the top 6 with a Sunderland win. Draw is ok for Coventry

Millwall with the choke job, Blackburn hit on the counter to get the likely winner. I know it’s only one game but Brereton looks way too good for this league. The commentary mentioned he will go to La Liga next season

Kinda stinks for both teams as neither will make the playoffs with this result. Would have loved to see a Luton vs Millwall playoff final.

He was looking too good last year and I was surprised no one tried to buy him last summer. I guess Blackburn were hoping he could get them in the playoffs so they didn't try to sell in January either. He'll go on a free to Villareal. The Blackburn manager has played him at LW more this year than CF which I think hurt their chances of scoring more and being in the playoffs.

Sunderland make the playoffs after several results went their way. They play Luton. Coventry held on for a draw at Boro and they will play each other already this weekend in the playoffs

Sunderland trying to go back to back with promotions, Stockport in League 2 is as well, would be a huge jump for them. They've got a good team on the rise but very young and not sure ready yet for the premier league. I just prefer the Luton story so would like to see them go through. On the other side I would like to see Coventry up, I remember seeing Middlesbrough in the premier league but Coventry relegated several years prior and I don't remember that time. Ideally Luton defies the odds and gets promoted so that Kenilworth Road is a premier league stadium next season.

Millwall losing to team who hasn’t won a game in two months with a playoff promotion spot on the last is a very Millwall thing to do.

I recall Coventry in the prem... they did have some talent like Moustapha Hadji and Dion Dublin... Then they had to sell and finally left in 2001... never to return..

I remember seeing somewhere that Kenilworth Road, doesn't currently meet the PL stadium criteria?

Luton probably doesn't have the resources to stay up anyway. If Sunderland makes it, would be interesting to see if they invest heavily like Nottingham to stay up.
