Less than a week until the campaigns begin again.

Pretty darn happy with Pompey's transfer window so far...

Harness out is the biggest loss, especially to promotion rival Ipswich. But he was free to walk at the end of the season anyways, so I'm glad they got some value for him. Ronan Curtis could still be on the way out...but he's said time and time again he wants to be at Fratton. Still, if a Championship club will pay up, I feel like he has to be sold.

As far as additions go...

Former Pompey Academy midfielder Marlon Pack is back at the club after several years in the Championship with Bristol City and Cardiff City. Will likely be the anchor of the midfield and a real leader.

They also signed Arsenal U21 defender Swanson, and West Brom keeper Griffiths on loan. Hopefully he can do what Bazunu did last year.

They also got Joe Pigott on loan, who I've wanted them to get for a couple years now. He was quite good at AFC Wimbledon, and I'm hoping he regains the scoring touch.

Finally, and perhaps most surprisingly. they signed another striker, Bishop from Accrington on a 3 year deal. It seemed the deal was in place last week, but then Blackpool seemingly swooped in to sign him at the last minute...only for Bishop to choose Pompey anyways.

I'm really happy with the window. The team needs a bit more depth, as most lower league clubs do.. Hoping for health...because this team needs to be in the playoffs at the minimum. 3 years outside the promotion picture (and 6 in League One) is too long. I trust the Cowleys, especially now that they've had 3 transfer windows to shape the squad.

Looks like DAZN lost the EFL as well as the prem. Don't see the EFL on FUBO either so where the heck is it now?

Cagey opening to the first match of the EFL season: Huddersfield and Burnley.

Ended up being a decisive 1-0 win for Burnley really; Huddersfield created little and Burnley probably should have had at least 3.

Burnley with 70% possession and a Brazilian. Weird times. Maatsen and Cullen were the standouts.

Could be a long season for Huddersfield without Corberan, O'Brien, Toffolo and Colwill.

Didn't know that Bradford City hired Mark Hughes. Fairly ambitious hire even though he's been out of managing 4 years. Hopefully it's a case of re-charged batteries and not getting a paycheck.

They were 14th last year but are 2nd choice in League Two this year, I hope they finally make the jump

My Man City supporting friend sent me that at halftime for reference

I always remember Kompany from FIFA 13, under the 'squad report' section Kompany was the only player I ever saw with the title "A leader of men".
Not sure I ever saw that under anyone else, but there are thousands of players I've never had on my squad.
Not really much surprise he's now leading squads wearing a suit.

Going to be a lot of parity this year in the EFL.
Only 7 out of the 34 matches had multi goal margin of victory

Then and there
40k attended Sunderland's home match, back in the Championship after a 4 year absence. Hoochie Goochie man provided a nice assist from his flank, and he got past his marker on other occasions as well.

Coventry got a deserved late equalizer with a pretty shot from Swede Gyokeres.

Then and there
Sunderland looked to be on their way to a comfortable win against QPR, but QPR goalie Semy Dieng equalized in the 93rd minute with a looping header any striker would have proud of. Not only that, but a minute later Dieng made a great double save, blocking the shot and directed it into bar, to secure a point for the R's.

Elias Chair was important as well, first the free kick goal and then making the cross for the 2nd goal.

YEEEESSSSSS COME ON URRRRRssss!!!!

Both QPR goals were long or first timers. Been many a game since a direct free kick went in.
A GK had never scored a goal for QPR in all their history. This was Dieng's 2nd overall in
his career.

A draw taken out of the jaws of defeat.

I watched the highlight of that goal and he seemed like the only QPR player who wanted the ball. He got on the end of the initial corner, was able to them put pressure on the keeper to where he couldn't catch it and then won the header that he scored. The forwards should be embarrassed by how bad he made them look in that sequence.

5 matches into the League One campaign...

The Top 2 looks pretty much as expected, with Ipswich and Peterborough 1/2.

Promotion favorites MK is struggling with only 4 points, but of course the season is young. Derby will be dangerous as the year progresses I think.

Only 3 unbeaten teams remain, with Portsmouth and Accrington joining Ipswich.

Speaking of my club, Pompey's off to a great start this year, with 11 points in 5, good for 3rd on the table, and 12 goals scored so far. The team looks confident, and they've made the most of a relatively easy schedule so far. Sadly, they lost Louis Thompson on Saturday with what looked like a broken leg, so early on their depth will be tested as the fixtures get tougher.

Already a managerial change in the Championship with Michael O'Neill getting the sack at Stoke after 1 win in 5. They will likely hire Alex Neil from Sunderland, in fact Sunderland released a statement that they are in discussion about compensation. Should the move happen, Sean Dyche is the favorite for the Sunderland job
