I think the timing of a trade right now would be a tad strange, eh? Team is really clicking and playing great hockey. Even when we lose we look really good. I really can't think of a trade right now that would work with all the injuries we have.

I use Chaisson only as a RW with size that to me is depth and a player who can be a net front presence. I like Kuhny but trading him for a player who can be another Horny type is what GMJR seems to be on the look for. Both Sully and GMJR have said the PP simply doesn't have the kind of guy who can be that player who distracts the goalie and delivers some jam in front.
I’d trade ZAR for Chiasson but not Kahun.

Rutherford certainly. I’m not sure I’d say Calgary isn’t ready to make a move. They may be in 2nd in the Pacific, but that largely is because the amount of games they have played. Good chance they are in fifth once Vegas, Vancouver, and Zona play 20.

Even then if Chucky continues to throw up 0s in the goal column, I imagine he’ll be doing it with another team by late December, early January.

Yeah, I know what their P% is, but I still don't think they're in big shake-up trade territory. I might be wrong, obviously my opinion mightn't be Treliving, but that's where I am. Haven't dug deep into them or followed them closely but a quick look at the stats says they're in a playoff slot today by P% (albeit barely) despite being bottom 10 for PDO, and their special teams are decently efficient.

But in any case, main focus is on what we want and what Rutherford will do, and while I've no argument with Chucky having about a month or two to make his case, I don't think he's going for another rental and I think what we need is another forward with a big offensive ceiling, not a Frolik. Brodie's difference over Schultz isn't worth not getting what we really want.

I think it would have to be an impact trade (ie. a Taylor Hall) that also didn't involve moving out any/many current roster pieces (ie. at most, a ZAR or a Bjugstad plus prospects/picks). Of course, that's near impossible both because of logistics -- Pens need to clear salary -- and because the Devils wouldn't take that back. But that's the only type of move that makes sense at this moment, IMO.

If JR could land Hall without giving up too much, along with his trade for Marino, the man needs a statue erected in downtown Pittsburgh...

For the record, I don't think Hall is likely. He was just the first "big name" that came to mind as an example of the type of impact trade right now that adding him without moving anyone of note out wouldn't hurt the chemistry or play of the team.

Not that it would have a huge bearing on my enthusiasm for a player of Hall's caliber potentially being brought on board but doesn't he have the reputation as a bit of an enormous douchebag?

no worse than P. Kane who’s probably #1 ***che of all NHL players and he’s tolerated by the Hawks apparently...

Because Minnesota is legit the f***ing worst team to watch, I don't get to watch them all that much. Dude is 35 years old. We'd be giving 9 years up in Bjugs. I have NO clue how he's playing - good/bad. But I know his leadership and what he brings to the team and being a UFA - i like that. But I would honestly defer to anyone who watches Minnesota.

I would love to stick w/ our young/speed attitude and I really just want to see Laff in there.

I don't think he does. Besides, if the Pens' locker room could handle Phil's ... eccentric personality, I don't think Hall would be an issue.

Koivu was an absolutely wonderful player in his prime. I’d like nothing to do with him.

I do reminisce sometimes about that Wild team that pushed the Avs to the brink though. Gaborik was and still is one of my favorite players. The Demitra - Gaborik - Hossa Slovak connection ruled. RIP.

Kessel is, by almost every account I've heard, a nice guy with a great sense of humour who's really popular with his team mates. His approach to hockey is annoying to most coaches, and that can spill over in bad ways, but he's generally liked. Someone who rubs team mates up the wrong way? That's a different story.

I haven't heard anything like that about Hall, but I don't exactly pay close attention to Oilers/Devils stuff. Is he actually a bad lockerroom guy, or did some reporter take his frustration with constantly losing since coming into the league and run with it?

I don't know that he has any sort of rep as a bad locker room guy, per say. I guess there are just all sorts of wild stories about his drunken carousing and general douchebaggery in his Windsor and Edmonton days. But that's probably just being young and dumb. Don't think it's really a thing anymore, after doing some reading. Reputation can be a tricky thing, I suppose. And honestly it's not as if I have much room to talk, myself... thinking back to those years.

Still... I gotta wonder how comfortable he'd be, here. He strikes me as a guy who very much wants to be the focal point of the offense.

Cost to acquire/re-sign taken into account, I'd rather get Kreider anyway.

Penguins are 8 points from dead last in the conf.
Penguins are also 8 points from first in the division.

Crazy close and massive importance 4 games make.
