Justify does it!

Hip #78 just sold for $1.1 million.

That is a yearling born in Pennsylvania to a dam who sadly passed away delivering birth to another foal.

Four purchases at a million dollars or more in Day One. Two were sired by Into Mischief, one to Uncle Mo and one to Justify.

Justify is strutting at a very young age. Any doubts about his next stage in life -- and there were some -- after retiring as the only undefeated Triple Crown champ have been mollified. 6-for-6 on the track and so far prodigious off, based on early returns for his progeny.

In 2021, the two-day result was more than $55 million with $29 million+ reached the second day. The highest 2-day mark is $62 million reached in 2018.

SARATOGA

NYRA released its handle to date at the 40-day Saratoga summer meet. Through the first 19 days, $416,924,385 has been bet -- up 8% from last year when $815,508,063 set a record.

The anticipation for this year's meet seemed to exceed the usual buzz and that in itself is something extraordinary.

Day 2 is underway...
Hip 114 at $1.35 million a Medalgia d'Oro colt.

We have a high for this sale...

Hip 126 was just sold for $2,000,000. A good battle between bidders was met by a quick round of applause.

A Curlin filly out of America (dam). One of the best sires in recent years, his daughters have been very successful.

Wow.

Hip 127 was just sold for $1,750,000.

A Curlin colt. That followed a $2 million Curlin filly. The boys aren't too bad either. That is $3.75 million spent on two Curlin horses in less than ten minutes.

Hip 186

$1.4 million to Gun Runner colt.

Gun Runner could very well be the best racehorse of the past 10 years, certainly in the debate, and his progeny has starred early.

The 11th million dollar baby.

Yearlings sale update:

Total sales have now surpassed 2021 and the night is ongoing. So far. $57 million has been spent the past two nights.

The high is $62 million in 2018.

Hip 202.

GUN RUNNER! "A dazzling, dazzling presentation exuding class," as stated by the emcee.

Attendees had to be told to hold applause.

$2.3 million purchased for his colt.

Gun Runner is a superstar on and off the track. What a star.

The initial final total is $66,955,000 spent the past two days at the Saratoga Sale. That appears to be an all-time high in the 101-year event [prior mark of $62 million was established in 2018].
