Player Discussion: The Elvis Thread

Sure .. I mean he has a career .920 save % and half that comes from playing on a bad team last yr , and he’s averaging 1 shut out every 7/8 starts , as he has 7 in 54 games .

Bad or not, Torts's jackets were built around defense with defense in mind. Its not Florida on other words.

$5.4m is a lot and 5 years of this makes it ever riskier.

NYI's Varlamov (an established above average goalie) was cheaper.

Its possible that Elvis will live up to the expectations but I think his upside might be limited

Either way, all those cheers here are too optimistic imo.. great contract? Noway. Not a disaster either. Just "ok" at best.

Last year might as well have been Florida, peak carnage. They looked like they still clogged the middle but there were open shooters everywhere. It wasn't goalie friendly.

I know it was only 6 games, but Tarasov did not look good in Cleveland. Either they keep Korpi for a year, or go sign an established back up. Sitting watching Elvis play won't help. He needs to play. Being the starter in Cleveland would be more beneficial.

I agree. I think I wasn't clear on that I didn't mean for what I typed to happen effective immediately, but instead when(and if) Tarasov is ready for it. Just thinking about the future in general.

The only thing that sucks about this is that it exposes us to more Elvis jokes in respect to his presence in or out of buildings (literal and metaphorical). Those are some lame, lazy and hacky jokes and I do not endorse.

Otherwise, good signing.

Always with the suspicious mind. Personally, I can’t help falling in love with those jokes.

I've been out of town for a bit.

Elvis has the potential to be great.
But there is a lot of risks to this deal (not a lot of experience in NHL and then a lot of things changed in his life this offseason which I hope makes him better, but a lot to deal with).

As others pointed out I hope we can find a good spot for Korpi. The problem now is teams know he is not our #1 so they are nowtrading for a #2 with upside, so the return will likely be less (but Jarmo has pulled off crazier deals).

Other teams have pro scouts. The things you want to hide from them, they already know about.

I see your point but I disagree.
If I saw a player I liked and then realized the team didn't want him, it would suddenly make me re-evaluate what I originally saw and would certainly tell me I wouldn't have to pay a premium to get that player.

My point is that they knew which goalie we wanted to keep before we signed Elvis.

anybody willing, please fill out my goalie questionnaire….

Why was Korpisalo chosen as the starter each time both guys were actually healthy and playing??

How much of an effect did Korpisalo’s injury status have on Elvis being “chosen as the starter”??

What GOALIE SKILLS make Elvis a better goalie??

Please explain what “ceiling” is to you, in terms of player potential. Bonus: What are the ages of each goalie??

Why would the CBJ put any trade clauses in his contract if the plan was to simply keep him and consider him “the starting goalie moving forward”??

How much should we take away from the “play” or statistics of the goalies or any roster player from last year??

How many games played would you consider a goalie “proven” at the NHL level??

thanks

Questions 1, 2 and 5 are for CBJ coaches past and some present.

And questions 3 and 4 have been asked and contested a hundred times. This is not to suggest posters shouldn’t respond to them.

I added 6 and 7.

Do you have any opinions on any?? Seems people never really do, it’s just attacking/name calling, Foligno hugs, Elvis/song jokes and the same recycling of statistics.
