I'm glad the decision has been made. I'm sure Korpi is upset and feeling a bit salty, but I think he'll have a good career wherever he goes.

A bit risky to sign him now IMO. They probably are going to be pretty bad next year, meaning a lot of GA, and maybe reducing Elvis' price. However its also a risk to not sign him as he could maybe get red hot and increase his tag, or worst case, get fed up with losing and want out.

But regardless I'm glad to keep Elvis. He's so likeable.

Interesting. I don't like to make assumptions but this doesn't look good for Korpi being here past the deadline. I can't see why Korpi would accept a backup gig and the CBJ ain't gonna pay him now that Elvis got paid. This may get awkward.

It does seem like the natural thing is for Korpi to move on to a bottom feeder like Buffalo or Arizona where he can try and steal a starter's job. Or maybe he'll go to a team like Edmonton where they might want him for his playoff record.

Either way, I don't think it matters too much for the CBJ where/when he gets traded. His trade value is maybe a 2nd rounder or something. Who cares.

The 10 Team No Grade clause is the one element of the contract I don’t like. I’m surprised Jarmo wasn’t able to negotiate away that clause.
Not to seem like our expectations for contracts are too low, but it's good that we're signing NTCs instead of releases.

Too expensive imho.. cant believe so many of you think Elvis is worth that much. $3m or 4 at the most is his fair value imo.

I was pleasantly surprised when the deal got announced. Here is to hoping Elvis stays healthy and maybe even outperforms the deal ;)

I do feel bad for Korpi all things considered.... and honestly hope he gets dealt to EDM as they seem like the perfect fit for him in terms of a good situation/not getting dumped to a terrible team..etc.. Wish him nothing but the best regardless.

Korpi going on a playoff run with the Oilers would be a joy to see.

I don't feel bad for Korpi today because I think was already clear he wasn't going to get his starting role in Columbus.

Sure .. I mean he has a career .920 save % and half that comes from playing on a bad team last yr , and he’s averaging 1 shut out every 7/8 starts , as he has 7 in 54 games .

I like Elvis, but I tend to agree. He hasn’t played a whole NHL season. Plus I expect him to get absolutely shelled this year. How will he react?

To me this is an overpay to keep a guy who hasn’t fully established himself. Goalies are weird and hard to project. Even when they play well.

As for Korpi? I like him too. Thanks for the great playoff run, but lots of goalies have stood on their heads for short spurts. He is a free agent at the end of the year. If he is pissed, it is in his best financial interest to play his ass off when he gets his starts.

This sort of feels like the Cam contract to me. Never going to be awful, but probably more than other teams would offer.

Good stuff. I hope we can find Korpi a new home and bring in Tarasov to learn under Elvis.
I know it was only 6 games, but Tarasov did not look good in Cleveland. Either they keep Korpi for a year, or go sign an established back up. Sitting watching Elvis play won't help. He needs to play. Being the starter in Cleveland would be more beneficial.

Agreed on Tarasov. He needs to play.

Agreed on your take on a second NHL goalie, and a quick perusal of the current available free agents leaves me hoping it’s Korpi until/unless you get a good offer for him.

Any trade of Korpisalo could easily target a serviceable vet backup to go with the primary piece you are getting in the deal.

The intitial rumor when there was some smoke around korpi getting traded to Edmonton was Korpi to Edmonton for a first and koskinen. So yeah, if korpi is traded in season we will almost certainly be getting a goalie back
