Discovered today that Disney parks in Florida are at capacity next week while I'm there with 3 kids totally intolerant to sun and people. FUN. CANT WAIT.

Most magical place on earth. Most magical place on earth. Most magical place on earth.

Deep breaths Chaz. You can do this

we went one year at this time too. When ours were little. It was nuts. But we found, like your planning, get there for rope drop. Stay until heat sets in. Then head back to pool and r&r until evening. Go back in evening.

Complete pain in the ass place. If you are staying at one of the big 3,the park opens 1 hour early. Many, many hints on Disboards.com.

That's the plan! Already preparing our rope drop attractions, hopefully get in 2 bigger ones before it gets nuts. Paid fast pass selections will be made at 7am along with our first unpaid fast pass reservation. I think we should be ok as long as we take a rest for lunch. I don't know what the queue limit for the kids is gonna be but I'm thinking somewhere around 30-45 minutes...which rules out almost everything unless we have the fast pass

So....in 1997 when we got married I made a deal with my wife:

I told her that I will do every single bit of laundry (wash, dry, fold, put away) forever ---- if she took care of the bills.

Back then, we had maybe 5 bills - house, car, insurance, utilities, maybe a credit card. Today ---- let's say it's a lot more involved.

I bring this up now because we refinanced in May and took some cash out to pay off some bills and have some cash on hand, since our mortgage was pretty low. (nothing crazy, BTW)

Since then we've gone to Chicago to catch the Sox @ Wrigley --- did Texas to see the Sox in Houston and visit San Antonio and Gaveston.

This week, she decided that we'd go to DC to watch my daughter play in a big softball tourney with her adult league team.

Part of me thinks I should be paying more attention to the finances --- 😂

The other (much bigger) part of me thinks --- she's never steered me wrong in 25 years, so just go with it.

LOL

The only thing I would recommend is everyone know and understand their finances.

My Mom took care of all of that including the taxes. She outlived Dad but he never paid attention to their finances. Sometimes that can come as a shock if you have to be the one to take care of it all of a sudden.

I have seen to happen to some who are left (especially unexpected) and are clueless.

Absolutely. Dad took care of all the bills, taxes, everything. After he died it was all on Mom. To her credit she managed very well with a little help from me but yes it was definitely a big adjustment for her.

Disney World opened several months after I was born. We were there I'm guessing sometime in its first or second year:

FB_IMG_1660677923906.jpg

Dad had a Super 8 movie camera and every time we lined up to watch a parade, somebody would put a kid on their shoulders right in front of him as he was trying to record. He was not a happy camper lol.

I've been to Disney many times over the years, up until I was probably 30 or so. I just don't think I'd find it enjoyable anymore, between the cost, and the crowds, etc. But I'm old and cranky now with no kids, so it doesn't matter lol.

This is so true. I was helping my Mom because she basically didn't know how to write a cheque or pay bills after my Dad broke his hip. After my Mom passed, we then had to take over quickly. The paperwork we are having to deal with now is crazy. They had purchased funerals but we didn't know where and had to call funeral homes until we found the right one. It was a nightmare.

We are going to make up a booklet with all the info in it so we both know what is going on in regard to passwords, etc., which will be good for us and our kids when the time comes. We just have to remember to update the passwords...lol

I know eggplants have a long growing cycle but the 2 I have in the garden are frustrating me.
They were planted in mid-May and didn't seem to grow at all for like 6 weeks. Then a crazy hail storm hit and I thought they were as good as dead. But the past few weeks they grew substantially from about 7inches tall to about 2-2.5ft tall and both plants are flowering (for over a week now) but no signs of any fruit sprouting...

I got really into gardening this year with the new house, but am still a n00b and learning as I go. My San Marzano tomato plant grew well and produced a lot of fruit, but it all had blossom end rot and was inedible, then I went on vacation and by the time I came back it was dead. We'll try again next year I guess and invest in the calcium spray to prevent rot.

Right now a bunch of the dragonfruit plants I inherited when I bought the house are starting to fruit and I'm excited. It'll be a while before they're ripe, but it's cool to watch them develop. I hope they're red flesh and not white though.

Most of the other stuff I planted in the yard throughout the year died, I presume because of the soil and the sun in the backyard being ill-suited for growth (I tried three different times to grow bell peppers and all of them died on me). I ended up buying a Hydroponic garden off amazon when I got back from vacation in July, and have been growing things in it. I love watching it, it's so much faster and more reliable than planting in the garden. I put in Kale and some peruvian peppers (rocoto & aji amarillo), and they're growing well. The kale is just spreading everywhere, should be able to start harvesting it in a couple weeks. The peppers took a good week to sprout, but since they did they've really shot up quickly. When they outgrow the hydroponic thing I plan to transplant them into a planter with potting soil in a shady part of the yard.

Ideally I think I want to use half of the hydroponic garden as a seed starter for things I want to transplant (tomatoes, peppers, etc), and the other half as a perpetual garden for fresh herbs (basil, rosemary, etc.). I'm in Zone 10b so I can grow things through most of the year anyway, but it'll allow me to get a head start on things by starting seedlings in January/February that can be planted in March.

It's funny, my wife works in business and finance, but at home I'm the one who mostly handles the bills and money matters. She does enough of that 9 to 5, so is happy to have me take care of our personal finances. Which works for us, and of course I could never get away with any shenanigans because she's far too smart with this stuff!

Although while my eggplants have been frustrating, I have well over 100 tomatoes (not counting the million cherry tomatoes and the ones I haven't picked yet lol) and I plan on canning a bunch of marinara. Bought 12 new mason jars off Amazon along with some I got from my mother and all the tools needed.

I handle the finances though I wouldn't say I pay bills though aside from the annual property taxes (which I pay right away because if not I forget about it). The mortgage auto pays from the checking, then everything else goes to the Credit cards (Fidelity 2%, Chase Amazon 5%, and Amex Blue Cash 6% Groceries/3% Gas), who are set to auto pay as well from the checking. I know the range my checking balance should and usually stays within that range aside from a big purchase or a 3 pay check month. Don't really write any checks so it is all pretty live. I balanced a check book about once in my life.

I use Mint.com to track all budgets and net worth overall. Basically you log into all of your online accounts (banking, 401k, credit cards, HSA, etc.) through mint and make a budget and when the charges hit it, they are moved them into the categories. I cannot recommend enough how seeing your net worth move daily, monthly , yearly really gets you into a savings mode.

I also recommend the book Simple Path to Wealth by JL Collins and Mr. Money Mustache. It is my go to gift to all new college grads.

Told work if they needed me today id come in. They said no few hours later they asked me too. This job just has people quit and not say anything.

Even tho I have barely slept last 24 hours and only had eaten sour patch kids in the last 24 hours I smashed 115 stops on some brand new pain in the ass route.

Truly said that the one thing in my life that helps with my insomnia, appetite, anxiety and depression is illegal/legal.

Was offered Xanax from a family member to try lets see if that helps at all

You have to live. I'm convinced we are on Earth to feel joy. Do the things you want to do, see the things you want to see....eat the dessert. :)

We do the once a week money meeting so that we are both on the same page about finances, bills, etc. It works pretty well. We are at the beginning of two home projects that are in design stage, bathroom and landscaping--lots of details to manage and my brain spins.

My good friend lost her husband very recently and she literally knew nothing about bills, his retirement....nothing. That's terrifying to me.

Anyway--good on you sir for having a great system! and keep living!

Disney is cool once every 10 years or so, maybe less. Knoebels is only a few hours away and it is a far far superior park for pennies on the dollar.
