Rose colored glasses? FAR from it, I just don't see the point in being critical about games that are completely worthless.

At least save it for October 9th when the games count.
Who’s being critical? Can’t comment on the game? I thought that hockey forums exist for that very reason……..

You're correct Leafs are lacking a true #1 Dman.

However that solution was to either draft one instead of drafting wingers, and when the Leafs signed Tavares it should have resulted in Marner or Nylander being traded for a #1/top pairing Dman.

Instead of signing Tavares the Leafs should have waited and used that $$ on local Ontario born Alex Pietrangelo a UFA, who has now lead 2 teams STL and Vegas to Stanley Cups since Leafs signed Taveras.

Alex Pietrangelo on the Cup winning ST. Louis Blues & Vegas Golden Knights
they could have had both ...and should have signed him.

you must be brand new here. NOBODY was more critical of them than me last season.

But that opinion was not based on the first pre season game of the year.

When It's time to be critical I assure you I'll be leading the charge.

September 23rd 2024 isn't the time.
When I see the same patterns as usual, it definitely triggers something in me, and last nights game was the same. If its another year of the same old same old, my interest will plummet even further so I was really hoping Id see something different. Ill give Berube a chance to put his stamp on the team but its not him Im worried about.

My concern about last night was on the individual level not structure.

They were slow.
They looked opposite of mobile.
Structure will help cover up this deficiency but they aren't good enough or perhaps I should say talented enough to completely cover that degree of deficiency.

Perhaps the opposition were just superior skaters?

You think a team that was about 85% AHL players were Superior skaters?

Come on let's be serious.

One team was filled with hungry players looking to earn jobs.

The other was filled with mostly established players that all knew their spots were secure with the exception of maybe 3 players who all had 1 goal which was to get out healthy.

They did that as far as I know.

They didn't even try for half the game and STILL took it to OT.

No the AHL team are not superior skaters, if they We're they wouldn't be in the AHL, they'd be in the NHL.

What you saw last night was a team trying to earn jobs VS a team that knows they are on the team, knows the game is worthless because it is and just wanted to get out healthy.

Did you think 5 years of a routine was going to vanish in 1 pre season game?

Give it time to gel.

If we had Fox/Makar/Josi/Hughes we'd be amazing. This team is truly 1, maybe 2 (Drai/McDavid/Shesterkin) pieces away.

look like some people thinking that way..

People don't understand by exemple the system will start to be really acquire like at chritsmas time...

Exemple with Florida, we started to see the new identity like in jabuary/february under Maurice...

But fans here after 1 pre-seqson game already on red flag...It's just hillarious

I'm still upset at losing out on Roy. OEL, Hakenpa and Timmins combine for his cap hit.

Rielly - Tanev

McCabe - Roy

Benoit - Lily
I'm not. His contract will look alot like the Ryan Graves contract very quickly. People talk about Liljegren and his lack fo physical play in front of the net and his give aways. Roy is the same player.

I think we're more than 1 piece away. Not sold on Ekman-Larsson, Hakanpää and especially Liljegren. Actually still confused as to why Treliving signed Liljegren to $3 mill, he struggles to stay in the line up when healthy.

Just seems like yet another year of patch work defence.

Not vanish but yea I kind of expected our top guys including our new captain to make a statement, but it was just the same as usual. Doesn't mean it won't change and maybe our top guys figure out what kind of sacrifice it takes to go deep and maybe Berube brings that out in them but after one preseason game it looks the same to me. Time will tell.

Right, because everyones concerns are based on one preseason game...what is hilarious is the excuses already being made....after one preseason game. Best one for me so far is the leafs played a bunch of AHL'ers last game who were really trying hard so thats why we lost and looked average. Keep em coming. Comedy gold Jerry comedy gold.

Of course it does, you don't play one system for 5 years and then just automatically drop that system and adopt a completely new system in 1 game.

It's going to take time
