I think the defense is just in response to all the stupidity being directed at him.

I really don't understand the NMC in the last year of Matthews contract and the last 2 years of Marner's contract...these guys will be in their mid-20's...not like they have family and kids they have to uproot...why do they need a NMC? If they can't live up to their contracts, the Leafs should have the right and priority to trade them...Dubas gives them huge money and walks them right into UFA status at such a young age, but can't trade them if they don't perform...what a loser GM...it's a disaster waiting to happen.

Why on earth Dubas front loaded those deals is beyond me. Front loading is for players who take team friendly deals so they can invest it and make 5-10% on top of the contract

Front loading is still a huge benefit to the players. A dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow. How these guys got these crazy front loaded deals with NMC's included yet still got these insane dollar value deals is beyond belief. I legit don't know how Dubas had sign off to do this. Marners season ending presser where he said they had some good looks and that he would not be doing anything different to prepare for next seems to indicate that he was ok with his post season play.

I really want to know what Dubas means by drafting skill all the time. Does he mean shot? does he mean playmaking? So far all I see is tiny guys who get bumped off the puck easily and lose board battles against much bigger guys. If you want skill...shooting is a skill too.

Dubas doesn't like toxic masculinity. It scares him.

This is accurate. But just like not getting a lowercap or longer term in negotiations in exchange for front loading the crap out of the contracts, making the contracts tradeable by front loading them is another advantage it sounds like Dubas will just blissfully ignore.

I think Marner needs to develop his lower body ala Marchand. You get hit but you don’t go flying into the boards. Even Kane and Kucherov. You hit these guys but they don’t get blown up because a big strong lower half keeps them balanced plus gives them the explosiveness to separate
