Why would they, he is their best player and produced in the playoffs once they got there.Colorado series wins through Mackinnon's first 5 seasons: 0
Guess they should have traded him.

Ill take a 1st or 2nd or 3rd round win every day and twice on sundays. Winning rounds and going deeper signifies progress doesn't it?
So now it’s the second round, instead of “winning a round”?
MacKinnon has performed in the playoffs consistently. Not sure how you are even drawing a comparison to our stars.
Why bother making the playoffs if you aren't guaranteed to win the cup, right? It signals you beat one team. Not necessarily progress. second place is first place for loosers.
LOL, strong persecution complex you have there.
Individual players shouldn't be criticized for lack of team success, judge everyone on their own merit. Nylander was great in the playoffs, Marner sucked, yet they're both Leafs. See how that works?
And the Leafs as a team sucked in the playoffs, yet again.
First round champion, Nate MacKinnon.
Except as someone posted Mackinnon and Marners playoff numbers are miles apart...yea I know Nate had a rough go against Vegas this year but he still put up 15 pts in 10 games with 8 goals. He is doing his part, Marner not so much.
Why bother making the playoffs if you aren't guaranteed to win the cup, right?
The screwed depth that was responsible for scoring 92% of the forwards goals in the playoffs.0 playoffs rounds. huh.
at least now he's a 2nd round stud thanks to his genius cap GM who has given him the elite depth that our GM has screwed us out of.
I will take some playoff success over none at all. Going deeper into the playoffs would be fun and exciting and dramatic. I personally dont watch hockey and the leafs just for the cup and the cup only. Im a fan of the sport and of the blue and white. If the leafs lost while battling and leaving it all out on the ice I could live with that, but they don't and that leaves the sour taste in my mouth, not not winning the cup. Cup is just the cherry on top. They still have the same number of championships. Which is the only thing that matters in a team sport. Team Championships. For great players who never win the cup there is always that asterisk besides their name , where people question just how good they really are. A cup removes all doubt.
To compete, I thought the premise of hockey was self explanatory?
As long as Vas plays at his current level, TB will still be TB. I can see they will not be a force in the regular season like None of Kuch or Point will be in the top 5 in scoring but comes playoffs they will turn on a switch and dominate. Kuch, Point, Hedman, Stamkos, Cirelli,McD and Vas are just too dominant.
Can’t wait to see a team to beat them in the playoffs though.
Progress in playoffs isn’t an indicator of performance, i.e. compete level?
Maybe I was asleep but this is news to me. Is this generally accepted as fact or a rumour?
Envy of all NHL, as not only their top 3 players are in three different positions but also the top 3 if not the best in their position in the league. It almost filthy how deep they are....
Vas is on another planet. One team has the best player (after Connor) in Kucherov and the best goalie in Vas and arguably the best Dman in Hedman all on reasonably friendly contracts. Gross!
Agreed. Dubas thought if he gave everything that the core 4 wanted, they would reward him. Well guess what, matthews and marner especially have zero interest in winning a cup. It’s just about the cashola.
Dubas got played, and at some point in the not so distant future, he will pay with his job
Funny how some here like to point to other players shortcomings to justify Leafs players shortcomings.
I agree with that bc I have heard enough stories(radio hosts and others) that a lot of players just can’t wait to get home after each game and practice, and would only focus on winning when their teams are in that position-2nd round or even Conf Finals.TSN's O'Dog has stated many, many times that most guys don't give too much of a shit when it comes to winning a cup. They know only 1 team does it every year and they are for the most part just looking to get paid. How else do explain players signing in arizona or Columbus. If they all cared about winning...the shitty cities and teams would never get any UFA's to come there. Yet...they still do get them. Not too many high end players...but they still get some.
Nobody disputes that but he’ll be at a 0.00 gpg pace in the playoffs and they’ll get eliminated in the first round in pathetic fashion again, more than likely because they have over 33 million in 3 forwardsHe'll be at 1.25/ppg pace this season, IMO.
Do teams compete for a Progress Trophy or a Championship Trophy?

I can't take you seriously anymore.
