He wasn’t scared to take a hit ffs. He could have easily braced and pinned the puck. It wasn’t Tom Wilson charging in on him and he panics.

He is thinking offence and trying to read the ice, you see him try to catch who is breaking out of the zone and look to the point to see if the Habs D is closing in. Meanwhile he loses the other two Habs forwards that are zooming in on him. It’s just the usual thing that he and Auston get burnt on too much: being too cute with the puck.

It's clear he swerve left to avoid getting hit...he saw how slow the puck was coming around the boards...he also saw 3 teammates in that corner before that, including Sandin who got bullied along the boards...he doesn't even have 2 seconds to decide what he should do with the puck if he gets it as he's aware at least one Habs player is coming for the same puck behind him so he decided not to be the first one there...it was probably a last second decision, but that was his gut instinct.

Auston had a career high of 63 points and 2 PO points the previous season.

Marner had a 94 point season and 9 points in the last PO.

Guess which one signed for more money and less term?

Marner will be making so many people eat crow next year.

Marner goes out of his way to avoid contact. Often looks like a figure skater in the neutral zone. Usually results in a turnover. In the playoffs, when ice is tighter, it's even more noticeable. Basically his offensive moves are good through March, then they become useless and shockingly he can't score in the playoffs.

At some point he needs to man up and play the right way. That is if on ice success is important to him. If I were to make a list of the players on the team of hardest working to least hardest working, Mitchy would be at the bottom of that list.
