The core players are showing their true colors again

Mitch could never do much on his own ever .. he is a complimentary type player .. Matty does not need anyone else .. he can create with pretty much anyone he plays with when in game shape

It's been ten games, and he isn't in game shape? Last summer he worked all summer with McDavid... working on his skating, his game, came to camp in great shape. If he truly showed up in such bad shape, that he can't keep up with play, ten games in to regular season, a training camp, and several preseason games, Houston, we have a problem. ..and yes, you can see from the TV, that Matty just isn't doing Matty stuff on the ice. I've posted previously, he looks a bit like the controller disconnected at times.

If this is truly what has happened, he's an embarrassment.

I wonder if this group is just a little too self aware and a little too self assured. They know that essentially
A. Their jobs and careers are safe
B. Nothing they do in the regular season matters, they could go 82-0 and it will mean nothing without post season success.
C. In their experience when want/need to they can crush the regular season

Mix those together and its a vicious recipe for early season complacency

I won't even say JT is doing well. Only Willie is bringing it sofar this season.

All our 10mil boys are underperforming.

Who else goes though? Tavares has a NMC, Matthews should be untouchable and nobody else is really worth moving.

Nylander is a good value on his current contract and I wouldn’t move Reilly unless they were offered an insane amount of money. Outside of that, they don’t really have anybody of value worth moving besides maybe Sandin and they have no cap room.

It’s been increasingly clear to me over the years that marner is the odd man out. He’s thin skinned, doesn’t perform when it matters, has a big contract without term and would fetch the highest return. They have enough soft offensive players, I’d move him based on return.

Marner is and always has been the shield for Matthews. It’s created additional pressure for Marner because he is the one that has to answer for the teams short falls. You can see that pressure is now mounting and affecting his on ice production. I really feel the organization has created a situation where Marner has to take a majority of the criticism to protect their prized asset.

I feel bad for Marner in a way, but honestly these guys are adults and have to be better simply put. But one of these days I’d like to see Matthews come out and defend his buddy to the media and show some solidarity.

Do you ever watch postgame interviews after losses? Matthews is usually there. As he was there yesterday. So enough of this bs conspiracy against poor boi mitchie. Relative or friend? Or friend of a friend? Lol, the lengths some people go to justify their idols.
 
Refresh my memory but why did JVR leave Toronto & return to Philly ?
We could use that types of bigger player playing left wing on the 1st line with AM & MM.

I don’t know Mitch Marner, not related to him in anyway. He’s not my idol, I’m older than him. I just enjoy watching him play. I’m all for him being criticized, but he should not be the only leaf taking the brunt of it is my point. Matthews has played way worse to start the year

I actually get the opposite. I think this group is too comfortable and afraid to call each other out and hold each other accountable. I don’t think there’s a problem between the players. I think there’s a disconnect between keefe and the top players.

The players are pretty close to one another

JT leads the team in scoring (goals and points) with Willy right now. I don’t know what more you can ask of him? It just goes to show people will still hate to hate.

At least you see JT and willy hauling ass and trying to make things happen. I think it was Willy that set up JT for that beautiful 1 tee that Gibson somehow got a piece of. But Tavares has looked a lot better than last year and looks more hungry, same with Willy styles. The other two guys I can’t say the same

Exactly judge the play. Losing your minds over post game interviews is a little odd.

This was the first year in awhile I just knew we weren't winning a damn thing. We didn't improve at all during the off season, and there is definitely issues behind the scene.

I don't even think we make the playoffs.
 
Im feeling like a broken record. Or lagging spotify conection, for those who are younger.
Use your hot players more.

If you look at the team as a living organism, then right now its braindead. Put the turning gears upfront, and sort the others after those.
Try gasillion kombinations with the lines that dont work. There will always be one combination that is the best right now, and this aint it.

Or maby he knows what he is doing and the rusty gears will start moving next game.
