You can have a lineup that includes a couple of 34, 16, 88, 91 and it would be successful. Trouble is, these guys are very 'Kessel-like' in their demeanor. Complementary, skill players who don't have the fire to lead and go through a f***ing wall for their team/fans.

Giving these 4 50% of your cap when there is zero balls, zero passion, zero pushback is suicide. They cannot be the face or the heart of the team. It handicaps the rest of your roster and leaves you scrambling for band-aids like Holl or an aging Gio. A throwaway like Sammy (who actually outperformed expectations) and a disaster like Murray.

Change is sorely needed

We will see what Shanahan does, I think after the series against FLA and the complete no show from the big boys he will have no choice but make a change to the core. It's not like this was a one time thing from them, it's 6 years now all of them show up and do nothing. The core is spineless and doesn't have what it takes to take charge and will themselves to a win.

Disappointing part is the depth have shown up to this series, all they had to do was have their big boys show up and Toronto is probably up in the series.

This just in! Johnny Toronto has announced the core is in the process of learning their final lesson: When you don't get the job done, you get shipped out. Tavares and the rest of the core are excited to apply all the lessons they've learned together over the past 5 years+ with their new respective teams in the fall and have vowed that "they will be better".

Exciting stuff the captain!

As Kyper says, why would you ask them to play gritter now when you have not asked all year ??

I'm so curious what "Lessons" these guys learned over multiple years of playoff failures. Like seriously? Did these guys not realize that they need to play a more passionate physical brand of hockey? These guys are the softest bunch I've ever seen. It rivals the smurf Montreal teams.

JT is making way too much to be playing anywhere but outside the top 6. IMO if AM doesn't commit to an extension by mid July, you move him. Nylander (aka as Pillows in my house), has to go. He is way too soft and doesn't make enough of an impact away form the puck. Marner is probably not going to be traded at this point. It feels bad right now, but tearing things down to the studs shouldn't be the first option. Trading any of these players will return less than their value IMO.
Matthews has a full NMC as of July 1. He has to commit before then or be traded.

ROR, Acciari and Lafferty are significant to you?

Not being fast is a big deal. The top teams all play with pace. We're left running around in circles in our own zone.

Every time I thought we were about to have a nice transition rush in this series, our forwards just dumped the puck in lol.

The core (and Giordano) are cooked. Do not bring back ROR, he's too slow as well.
I was asking myself WTF they were doing on some of those dump ins? You have a 3 on 2 with speed and you just throw it in the corner. Then to add they didn’t even have the fortitude to even retrieve those dumps, because none of them want to hit, or be hit. Meanwhile the Panthers would transition up the ice and make something out of a 2 on 3 by simply outworking the back check of the Leafs, and taking hits to make plays. The bottom line is only 1 team has put in the physical effort it takes to win playoff games. The same was happening through the Tampa series. Toronto just got lucky with some horrible goaltending at the other end, and Samsonov playing lights out on the road.

For anyone that missed this, highly recommended. They told it like it is, 100% bang on, especially O-dog.
Very good first hour, I think Hayes and O-dog hit it bang on. Hit on what most fans are feeling right now and how they feel about the Leafs stars.

The fact Toronto superstars after 7 years have not outplayed another teams superstar in 8 series and haven't willed there ways to win like McDavid/Leon and other duo's have willed there way to win it all says a lot about them.

I of course was elated when they got by Tampa, but even at the time completely embarrassed by the locker room celebrations and cases of Bud Light delivered as if these guys just won a cup.

Complete loser mentality.

Wait so you want to rebuild?

That's ridiculous.

Get a coach that's not an idiot and a goaltender that's not going to let in 3+ goals nearly every night.
You cannot win when your best players, let alone when your best players make 40$ million. Keefe needs to go, but you could have Scotty Bowman coach and they wouldn't win with how this core has preformed in this series.

When your best players in the playoffs are consistently 2nd best on the ice EVERY SERIES then your in trouble and it has to do with the people on the ice.

Losing is okay as long as you got beaten by a better team at your best. But every time when there is pressure, our top guys just fold. The only time they didn’t, they won. TB might had outplayed them but the boys never gave up, they kept coming back and that’s why they won 3 OT games. But against the Panthers, it seemed like they forgot how to fight and how they got past the first round. And last night game is by far the worst game they played even worst then Game 4 and 5 against BJ or Game 6 and 7 against the Habs.

It's Samsonov he's been trash

Watching the Draft Lottery.

Some of you people don't deserve the good things because you can't appreciate the good things.

I have to assume too many of you are too young to remember all the way back to watching Shanahan all giddy for drafting 1st overall.

Did you even watch last game where Marner and Matthews completely disappeared in a must win game?

Did you watch the Tampa series where Tampa was clearly the better team and out played Toronto in 5 of the 6 games? This core just doesn't have it

I've watched Samsonov give up 3+ goals in 6 of the 8 games he's finished.

Don't be an ass kisser.
