If Edmonton wins the Cup, McDavid will win the Conn Smythe - no matter how many points Dr. Drai has.
Why?

Messier won it over Gretzky in their first cup win, and Gretzky put up 35 points to Messiers 26.

Not controversial at all either. Every Oiler fan that watched the entire playoffs all unanimously agreed, Messier was the clear cut MVP. Super clutch (esepcially in the Finals against the Islanders) and physically dominated the opponents when we needed it the most (Battle of Alberta - aka the REAL finals).

I changed my mind about my post after last night. Dr Drai was out of this world.

I think Tkachuk is making a good case for himself but Drai is seemingly hanging in there. Too bad the Oilers went full Dallas and decided to lose despite one guy scoring 4 goals lmao. I mean the guy has 11 goals in 7 games. He's basically double the next actively playing player.

Given there's no other Panther in the top 10 of scoring right now, it's still slightly Tkachuk IMO

I know he’s not going to be in the mix but for Dallas it’s hard to look past Heiskanen.

He’s logging 30mins a game(31mins last night) and they totally collapsed when he got injured

I know the impact Heiskanen has on the backend. I still think what Hintz does upfront with the minutes he plays is more impressive. They even split Hintz-Robertson and Hintz is producing even more. Robertson not so much. That tells you what kinda player he is.

This gets weird bc of things like Draisatl only having like 9 points his first year (forget games played) and obviously not making the playoffs that year so there are dynamics that can hold one side down while push the other side up.

Compare that to

That the other one is in pole position, whilst the other one I would rank as number two.
Which is pretty crazy. You actually believe that there's two players - on the same team, that should be considered the "MVP of the Playoffs" when there's a bunch of other matchups with players carrying their teams?

Like, you're saying that you think that the "Nr 2" on the Panthers is more valuable than any other player carrying their teams in the playoffs?

Miro at this rate is the Stars candidate if they do win it all. As good as Roope has been, it's hard to look past Miro given his play this post season, and the minutes he is logging. It's unreal.

Edmonton: Leon
Florida: Tkachuk
Vegas: Stone
Seattle: Grubauer? They're so deep and get contribution from everyone so it's hard to pick one player.

Haven't watched much of the Hurricanes/Devils series to give an opinion. As for Toronto ... well I won't bother given they're down 0-3.

Martinook is a great story and the numbers are there through 10 games. Aho otherwise for the Canes probably.

Though, with all of the talk about Staal on home ice, maybe this is a year in which voters puff their chests and say ‘there’s more to hockey than points.’ He’s been a beast.

Slavin too. He’s been on the ice for 2 5v5 GA all postseason. That translates to .65 GA/60.

Gotta be Slavin for the Canes if they go all the way. He's just been absolutely dominant on the back end and that's how the Canes are winning these games. The scoring is coming from across the entire lineup with nobody really standing out across the two series.

I'd still go with Tkachuk as the favorite right now, pending how Florida continues to do from here.

Slavin is having a spectacular playoffs. He's actually got a positive goal differential on the penalty kill. Two goals for and one against.

Roope Hintz, Matthew Tkachuk, and McDavid/Drai are my picks for best up to this point.

If the Leafs somehow luck into a winning streak, Rielly has been their most consistent player and deserves a nod.
