No dog in the fight but for the record I was at that game and only a few rows above Nash during the tribute to him... He did skate in a very tiny circle but in no way overtly acknowledged the tribute with a raised stick, hand or even head bob... My opinion, there is no love lost between Rick Nash and the current CBJ roster…

I came here to post this. Posted it elsewhere but don't recall where. I could care less about the tiff with Bob or the dust up with Calvert. That's good hockey stuff right there but the fact there was no acknowledgement to the fans who actually gave him a standing O.... PISSED ME OFF!

He came on the ice for his next shift during the tribute and all he needed to do was acknowledge his accomplishments to the fans of Columbus that supported him and the miserable team for his 10 year floating, er, tenure.

I hate the Rangers (Isles fan from the late 60's on) and now have another reason. If I can't yell "1940" any more at those miserable pukes I'll gladly boo Nash as heartily as possible during the playoff series! I want the Rangers and think it would set up an amazing 1st round of series (CBJ v Rags, PHI v PIT, DET v BOS, MON v TBL).

Seems to me Mac plays only if there is nothing at stake. As long as there is a chance to pass Philly or stay ahead of Detroit, it will be Bob. And that is the way it should be. It is playoff time. Guys can rest all summer.

There's a thread on the mains about the NYR and how they are being overlooked. Since 12/20 they are 29-14-3, which is one of the better records in the East.

Since that same date, the CBJ are 28-14-3. I'd love to get a shot at them in the first round.

There's a lot of talk about team. I don't care a whole lot about that. People are very intimated by the Bruins, I'm not and I don't think the Jackets are. Obviously it's a real chance we get swept by anyone. First time in with this group some of our best players are very young.

One of the bigger advantages to the third seed is that we'd get a home series if we make it to the second round and the Flyers upset the Pens.

The reality is, my head is telling me that we're going to have to find another gear to have a chance of winning a 7 game series. We'll have to play more like we did last season. I haven't really seen that since around January. Bob seems on top of his game and the Pens seem to have the weakest goaltender with teams we might face in the first round. The only series that we might have an advantage in goal could be if we face the Pens.

I wish there would have been a "I don't care; bring it" option in the poll.

I'd have voted.

haha.

I tend to believe that what you want isn't always what you need and that, sometimes, the scarier option(s) are sometimes the best one. For me that is the Pens and like most I want the Rangers (just from the rivalry and #3 seed option; not that I like the matchup better). So maybe the Pens is what we should end up with.

For some clarification; I may sound a bit down on our team and maybe a bit defeatist at times. That's not really the case. I, like the front office and the players, aren't happy to just be here and won't be satisfied with a 1st round exit - no matter who or how many games it goes. I'm just looking at our team and how we're playing. There is just something missing and I'm not thinking about overall team skill.

I agree that they have not consistently played with that extra step of aggression they seemed to have every single game last year. Now maybe they will step up to that extra gear in the playoffs. But like blah, I am not sure they can do it consistently over seven games. Of course, I hope they are able to surprise me.

I think I fall into this general boat as well. As to what is missing here are some thoughts:

consistency-not terrible but could be better

lack of grit - we're physical in the sense that we forecheck and annoy but to a great extent we don't have the really tough guy(s) who also is a very good player

when we fall behind I don't know if we are very good at being able to adjust our offensive plan to catch up.

we can't pass worth a ****

Just some things I think we are missing

I have some of the same general sentiment, but I don't think you've identified the areas where we are missing something. We're very gritty. Dubinsky, Foligno, Jenner, etc.. those guys can lay down the pain and can make plays too. Jenner could wrestle with the likes of Backes and Lucic. I don't think we have anyone who could fight Lucic and Chara but who does? Everyone in the East is saying they don't want to play us and I think its mostly because we're going to hurt them. Our inability to close out leads is the biggest thing I think we're missing, and I think that's a youth and inexperience thing. The emotion in the playoffs is going to lead to some volatility for the younger guys.

But it's a back-to-back tonight and tomorrow. So basically it's been 4 games in 5 nights.

McElhinney has to start today right??? Don't wanna wear Bob out.

The third seed (standing) in the metro and the fact that Bob rested yesterday I'd play him tonight.. Tomorrow would be based on the standings and condition of Bob prior to the Florida game.. The difference in playing the Rangers or either Pittsburgh/Boston is significant on several levels, they must go for the highest standing possible-Bob will have plenty of time to rest during the off season.

If Philadelphia wins in regulation in PITT on Saturday, #CBJ would be locked into a wild-card spot: beat Panthers and they clinch 1st WC.If #Flyers lose or require a shootout to win vs. #Pens, #CBJ -- with a win over #Panthers -- could take 3rd if Flyers lose Sunday to CAR. If #CBJ lose in regulation vs. #Panthers and #RedWings earn a point in STL on Sunday, CBJ fall to 2nd WC and face Boston.

For me, it's not about wanting the Rangers because they'd be 'easier' than the Pens or Bruins. It's that the story line would be so intriguing (our ex-Rangers versus their ex-Blue Jackets including Nash) to Columbus and the national media. It is something that could really sink the hook into casual fans to buy in going forward. I want future attendance to go up to ensure that this team can spend to the cap and this series could pay huge dividends in that area.

The emergence of a hockey Pittsburgh-Columbus rivalry is a good second choice. The CBJ might always be second fiddle to the PIT-PHI rivalry, but I see a good one developing here over the years.

I don't see the same story-lines or rivalry occurring with Boston, especially with Horton out. It doesn't help with rivalry genesis that they are an Atlantic team so we aren't going to play them as much as NYR or PIT going forward.

Win today and it's NYR or PIT, so let's get it done today.

Today's Pens-Flyers game could be the worst hockey game ever played. The Pens probably want to lose and likely face us, while the Flyers probably want to lose and likely face the Pens.

Could see 15 own goals today.

I agree that the Flyers would prefer the Pens over the Rangers and I'm pretty sure the Pens want us. You hit the nail on the head.
