I wonder if at this moment, JD would take back the Gabby trade.

He must've thought deep down that we weren't going to be in a position going into round one with a serious shot in order to justify that trade, IMO.

As I have said many times. The goal of the season was to make the playoffs, but they knew they weren't bringing back Gaborik past this year. Why not get something for him? They produced many wins without him in the lineup and often struggled utilizing him when he was in the lineup. He was not a fit, and no we don't miss him.

Seriously we have to be the most bipolar fanbase in the league. Weeks leading up to the TDD people were throwing **** at Gaborik calling him a lazy floater who was oft. injured and didn't have it anymore. Then a few days before the deadline people started saying they wanted to keep him because of Arty's hot streak, and then after trading him blasting JD and JK for not knowing what they're doing. Jeesh

Only the Blue Jackets would say an All-Star goal scorer doesn't fit on their team. :shakehead You don't giveaway goal scorers at trade deadline if you're in the playoff hunt. Getting a late 2nd round pick is hardly getting something for him.

And I said trading him for a 2nd round pick was dumb a month before the trade deadline. It had the potential to make Jarmo look like an idiot, and it has. So...definitely not bi-polar. Probably one of the dumbest trades this franchise has done.

I understand that he did not fit into our long-term plans. Short-term, to say a guy in form, with immense goal scoring capability, "does not fit" on a young team with an inconsistent PP making a playoff run is simplistic to be charitable (assuming he isn't a total locker room cancer or something to that effect).

The initial short-term question invariably becomes "are our odds of making/succeeding in the playoff better or worse with Gabby vs Frattin?" The answer to this question is spectacularly obvious. Yes, Gabby wouldn't fit into his traditional role regarding ice time etc. But to say he wouldn't make the team better NOW, even in a limited un-gabby-like role, is bat chit crazy.

The bigger question of course, is whether Gabby's potential contribution now is meaningful enough to risk losing out on a 2nd rounder, a 3rd rounder, Frattin and about 800K in salary (which is not a foregone conclusion unless the GM is a completely stubborn child, which he is not. If Gabby were to be awesome in the playoffs and molded the PP, he'd likely resign and definitely receive an offer).

That question has a different dynamic to it today than it did on March 5th. At the deadline we were a franchise with a history of failure, a young team who had promise but not a big fear factor in the now.

Well, we put a serious run together, look great and our former Vezna Goalie is healthy. National media people are saying we're 50/50 against the Rags, and only slightly worse against the Pens.

Thus the question.
Why not get something for him? They produced many wins without him in the lineup and often struggled utilizing him when he was in the lineup. He was not a fit, and no we don't miss him.

It's not a bipolar fan base, you're just conflating all of our collective opinions together as though they were one single organism. I never said any of those things. Gabby is not a floater and it's dismissive to say that JD and JK "don't know what they are doing."

Rags are out as a potential playoff series.

Win and we play Pittsburgh. Seeing as Fleury looks primed to pull a Fleury this playoffs, I think we've actually got a bit of a chance to win.

We're not bringing back Nikitin - why didn't we get something for him?

if missing games due to injury means a player doesn't fit, well then Ryan Murray and Nathan Horton don't fit either.

At the time we were all debating on if we were going to bring back Nikitin. He has played his way out of that, just like Gaborik did. If you remember when we got him, JD and JK said they wanted it to be a long term fix here.

I didn't say because of injury he wasn't a fit. Nowhere in there did I say that. I said because of the injuries it gave others a chance to step up and they did, and when Gaborik came back, they didn't know how to use him.

There was no evidence or any proof he didn't fit in the locker room or on the ice. So I just don't get the fans who keep repeating the front office's "didn't fit" "square peg in round hole" nonsense.

His issue this year was injury, nothing else.

It's early. But I agree 100%. Hell he coulda traded an a decent player (Brassard) a young defenseman with potential (Moore) and a grinder (Dorsett) for a hell of a lot more than Matt Frattin and garbage picks. Jarmo is cheezmo so far. So far...
