Quietly?

The season is still young though and they certainly aren't going to continue to blow multiple goal leads, right? Right?!...

...RIGHT?!?!

Wasn't the new management supposed to make sweeping changes? Seems like they've kept the status quo.

As ugly as it looks on paper and though it could be better, the defenseman/lack of defensive depth weirdly hasn't really even been the main issue, for the most part (the depth defensemen have been okay, and a #6 guy like Burroughs actually looks outright fantastic). It's been the defensive play of the expensive high-minute, go-to guys like Hughes, Miller, Horvat, Boeser, and Hoglander, who have been absolutely terrible in their own end for some reason (and seem to have turned Demko into a bit of a panicking nervous wreck expecting to be hung out to dry at every turn, in the process). Only the Pettersson line and the fourth line have been a non-liability defensively. The coach's inability to be smart about who to deploy given how they're playing has a lot to do with the losses as well.

Also, all the "nothing quiet about it" people are missing the joke.

-Focus and attention detail. They’ve been the better team for most of these games and found ways to lose. 50 minutes playing well but with 10 mins of brutal play

-Team defence has always been a weak spot but at least last year when Boudreau took over the team bought in and tightened up. Given the above point it’s been too much, Demko and Martin haven’t been able to stand on their heads either.

-Miller. Has been horrible so far this year. A couple games ago he was on the ice for EVERY single goal against in the season to date.

Also I think given the horrendous start last year that ruined the season, after a couple losses in they started looking like they’re overthinking everything. Playing not to lose rather than playing to win etc.

I wouldn't even be mad at this if I were a Canucks fan. If they somehow won the lottery for Hughes their core would look really really good going forward.

The Canucks won't win a lottery and if they ever do, they'll have already traded the unprotected pick for some schlub that gets injured as soon as they join the team. The Canucks are plague on it's fans and who knows, perhaps it's deserved. Tragedy and comedy.

Each year I am told that they are better than the Panthers. I can’t help them see what’s plain to see. They are just not a good team. Their top 6 or top 9 (every year they switch which level of players are apparently better than Panthers forwards) are not the monsters they think they are. I think a lot of it is media influence. They must be convincing the fans that these players are winners somehow.

Did I miss something? Are teams now judged on how good they are relative to the Florida Panthers?

what

I don’t understand why their record under BB last season was that of a playoff team but they start winless in 5 games this season. Why doesn’t it translate from last season to this season? At least not yet.

A lot easier to play loose and without worry when you're way out of a playoff spot and the games down the stretch don't really matter to you versus the start of this year when everyone is starting from zero and games matter.

It's why, in general, I'm always skeptical of teams who play hot down the stretch when they're out of a playoff spot carrying it over to the next season.

This but also the housecleaning ( of the coach and management) was a huge breath of fresh air for the entire city and the team itself. Canucks fans knew management was grossly incompetent but rumors started coming out about the players felt it, too, especially after the off-season in which we lost Markstrom, Toffoli and Tanev (who was the real captain of the team despite Horvat having the C).

This year the organization got somewhat of a fresh start but also playoff expectations; whatever mojo they had last year is gone and pressure is back.
