I just don't like Lucic on that top line. Kopitar doesn't need (space) He creates that all on his own.

Kopitar is a possession BEAST, he doesn't need space, Defenders give Kopitar loads of space, cause he simply takes the OUTSIDE EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Kopitar needs to start forcing his way inside.

This is a broken record. This is his 10th season he is not going to all of a sudden change and go to the middle. As Kopitar always says "It is what it is"

We have won 2 cups with Kopitar on the outside so lets think of another plan.
#1 We need to get faster as a team.
#2 More skill on the bottom 6 so we can run 4 lines.
I would take Kopitar and Doughty off the 1st PP and go with players who can move the puck quicker. I like Martinez and Ehrhoff - Gaborik/Weal/Carter

i'm saying kopi is trying to play as sutter wants him to play. or that line, or the team. kopi doesn't have the freedom to play much differently.

Nonsense.

If that were true, Kopitar would shoot the puck every single possession, and go to the net often.

I can dig up Quotes from Sutter, saying Kopitar needs to be more selfish, and score more, puck hog more.

Stevens/Lombardi/Murray/Sutter, just about everyone has said, Kopitar needs to assert himself more in the Offensive zone(maybe even cheat a little).

You need your two top six Centers to play consistent.

The Bottom six have been the best lines, and most consistent to start the season.

The reason Kopitar was effective in the playoff's to win cups (forced the issue by moving inside, and scoring).

The Puck moves faster than players skate. The Kings looked fast in 2012 and 2014 right ? Loads of speedsters right ? uhh NO, they moved the puck fast.

I've been saying Doughty shouldn't be on the power play for years.

I know you brought it up before. But I am with you in amazement with how much blame players like (Trevor Lewis) get with the Top six complete lack of performance. Or the Kings lack of performance in general, guys like Lewis/Clifford are not paid to be difference makers...

It's mind boggling.

Put it this way folks; if you are relying on your bottom six to make your top six better or perform, your team sucks to begin with. You are the EDM Oilers.

we're not getting any closer. kopi gave some interviews in last years, in international + slovenian media, on how he adapted the role of defensive center and not just goal-oriented points factory, under sutter, i can dig up some quotes as well.

look, if we couldn't agree so far maybe we should continue our conversation when we win our next game. peace.

The entire point of depth players is to push the roster over the top when the top players are maxed out. They're only utilized properly when the top players are playing properly.

You would have to dig up those Quotes under Murray, cause by the Time Sutter arrived, Kopitar was done developing, and a 200ft Elite Defensive Center.

Kopitar had a career year and was excellent defensively in 09-10, 10-11, under Terry Murray, and his (actual) RIGID system.

The system has only got more (loose) under Sutter, as I pointed out in the article above.

Once again, The only person stopping Anze Kopitar, IS ANZE KOPITAR.

deal, let's share our quotes. you first, you've started it.

Already pointed out in post #245. Sutter describing him loosening the system so players can create offense. Lets see your quote where Sutter is saying, he is making Kopitar less effective by being a Defensive Center on purpose. Or that the system in place is making him do so.

Now remember, if you link a Quote of Kopitar saying he is playing a certain style to concentrate on Defensive, you are proving my point.

(Sutter) On Anze Kopitar:
“He’s the best all-around centerman that I’ve coached, period. Period. Faceoffs, last minute, first minute, penalty killer. Plays against everybody’s top player, whether it’s a defenseman, a center, a checking role or an offensive role. He plays 20-plus minutes. Doesn’t take penalties. It’s the whole deal. He can play it whatever way we want. Do you want to come and get me? Come and get me…He can play it any way we want. And you know what? The best thing about Kopitar is he’s getting better. And when they do the comparisons with guys that are like that, there’s only a handful of them.â€

So Kopitar is a good Center, that can play all facets of the game. We know that.

What exactly did you point out ?

Where is the Quote of Sutter saying "I am making Kopitar play passive and Defensive" Or "the system is making Kopitar play this way" ?

You pointed out a Quote that actually helps my argument. Since Sutter knows Kopitar can play all three facets of the game, there should be no excuse for Kopitar to be so passive in the offensive zone.

one step back. does he have the freedom on the ice? this quote is about the system, the hierarchy that i was trying to explain. and to tell you truth: more lak loses this year, more freedom kopi gets. should we pray for that?

look, it's late here, but i'm back tomorrow.

I'll do one better, here some logic for you.

Since Kopitar adheres to this strict Hierarchy as you called it. By now Sutter would have laid the wood on Kopitar about (GENERATE MORE OFFENSE DAMMIT). Kopitar being the good soldier would have responded yes ?

Logic dictates that.

I think Kopitar is just a player that to his own detriment is unselfish. He needs to shoot more, and be aggressive like he was in 09-10, 11-10, Only person stopping him, is himself.

Some of you keep acting like NHL coaches tell their best players not to be creative on the ice.

Where do you guys get this from ? It's a serious question.

It's the equivalent of an NFL coach telling Arron Rodgers not to make plays on the fly, or not use his god given talent.

Kopitar didn't have a problem being PPG in the 2012 playoffs under Sutter. He also put up 76 points that year under a combination of Murray and Sutter. He was also scoring at a Malkin-esque pace in the 2014 playoffs until the Hawks series. The examples are myriad of Kopi performing under different systems. In both the regular season and the playoffs. This isn't a coaching concern.

His best Offensive years were under a strict (rigid) system and structure Coach.

People should think about that, Maybe Sutter is too (loose) with Kopitar ?

There's nothing about the Kings system that forces Kopitar to dust the boards from blueline to blueline with his ass when he's the first guy into the zone carrying the puck. That's his choice. Another choice would be to cut to the middle. Like how he did on his first NHL goal, or that OT goal against Dallas when we had the 5 goal comeback, or a host of other times where he has actually gone to the middle.

The prime goal scoring area is a triangle from the net out to the faceoff dots. If you spend all your time outside that area, you're going to end up putting up something pathetic like 16 goals a season. You know, Dwight King territory.

If I had a dollar for every time we discussed this I would fund Kopitar's contract myself.

Mike Richards isn't in the NHL and was terminated because of Mike Richards.
Anze Kopitar isn't a 30 goal scorer/80+ point player because of Anze Kopitar.
Drew Doughty doesn't dominate lower teams because of Drew Doughty.

Blaming Sutter is the dumbass way out. Enough. How do people keep saying such stupid ****? Wake up.

"System" is the most annoying buzzword on this board.

How long until the 3% shooting regresses to the mean? I guess the questions is are we talking Mean as in league average or Mean as in Kings shooting average in which case we've regressed back to the Mean!!! :scared: When you have a team with guys like Carter/Gaborik/Toffoli/Pearson, a team shooting and sustaining 3% for periods of time over multiple years, maybe it should be looked at?

I really don't think this team is good enough to get Sutter to the playoffs. Kings are supposed to be aiming for winning low scoring tight games, and with the lack of experience at the 3c and Brain Farts on defense, I just lost that playoff feeling. Don't think this is a wait for the deadline type situation either... Kings need to beat some of the teams in their division.

No, because Dustin Brown and Trevor Lewis!!!

I think the offense falls apart because of poor positioning, in that dirty old triangle, for second and third attemps on attack. The onus is on the forwards without the puck. DK was a guy who went there alot. Net presence. Persistence. One of the Justin Williams talents. I need more than a flyby. Don't we have a guy like that in the system? One reason for the balance of positional problems is I think the Old guys don't trust the Defense yet. Muck it up boys.
