So Vitek or Akira? Who do you think starts tonight?

Akira has been pretty bad since being returned.

Vitek will definitely get the Saturday afternoon start.

So maybe go with Akira? That’s a lot of hockey for the entire team to play in about 65 some odd hours.

We’re gonna need to lean on Vitek a lot from here on out and goalies tend to not play as well on the second night in a row unless you’re Brodeur.

I took “Precautionary” to mean he’s nursing something minor. And I still think he was supposed to get last night’s start and Vitek was originally gonna play tonight, so I stand by the idea that whatever happened to him had already happened before last night and they just had no time to bring Schmid to Detroit and he was okay enough to back up.

But they do often times say precautionary around the deadline before a player is traded. Or like Taylor Hall for a few games before he was traded.

I read somewhere that it was specifically due to a shot that caught him in a bad spot during the morning skate in Detroit.

FWIW I take precautionary to mean they are trying to trade Blackwood but I have no insights just my read.

EDIT: NM just read that official tweet from the team in this thread - "Mackenzie Blackwood took a shot off the hand during the morning skate in Detroit and is being held out as a precaution."

I would go back to Vanecek tonight.

I'd go Schmid

But I understand if they play Vitek again, if not only because he might have been traveling today.

But who knows? For all we know he could have left this morning. It doesn't sound like he was even in practice.

So I'd probably look to play him.

We're gonna be (or we SHOULD be) leaning on Vitek A LOT for the remainder of this year.

Nobody told me there'd be days like these...

Yess!!! Im willing to trade him for:

- A cheese burger (McDonalds or better quality) and a medium fountain soda for each Devils player!
- Six pack of premium beer
- A good Cuban cigar to celebrate the trade with

Make it happen Fitz!

Edit... fml.. just an injury
he'd have to go to a Canadian team to return a Cuban cigar. They still aren't sold in the US.

I saw this but didn’t see Novo/Stein mention this so not sure how accurate it is

I've never heard of a goalie injuring their hand before - isn't the glove and blocker supposed to protect against that?
