First and Wahlstrom for tarasenko. You guys need a quality sniper to get over the hump.
We need to be realistic. Wahlstrom is never going to happen unless we add value to the trade. And then still, it's not going to happen.
However, I do think a 1st (it's going to be a late first anyway) + another pick/prospect(s) isn't out of the question as long as we can help the Islanders with their capproblem.
We can't retain on Tarasenko's contract because we need the capspace next year for Parayko's contract, however we can take on some capspace for
this season as long as that increases the return we get for him: if we trade Tarasenko for his full contract we have enough capspace to take on both Hickey and Komarov's contracts. The Islanders will upgrade their top 6, get rid of 2 bad contracts and still have enough capspace for signing their RFA's (and possibly do a deal for a LHD) we on the other hand will have more than enough capspace to sign Robert Thomas and carry a 23-man roster. Hickey can be buried in the minors and Komarov can rotate in and out on our 4th line. Hickey and Komarov's contracts expire at the end of next season so capspace isn't going to be a problem when we need to sign Colt. Hell, we can retain 50% on both Hickey and Komarov if anyone wants them (which also isn't going to happen).
So in short:
Islanders:
- Tarasenko
Blues:
- Hickey
- Komarov
- 22 1st roundpick
- good but not top tier prospect(s) (not Dobson / Wahlstrom level, looking more at guys like Samuel Bolduc or Tristan Lennox) / extra pick(s)
