The Australian Masterchef is nothing like the American version though. The fact that everyone's so chill is why it doesn't feel stupid. No plotting, no extravagant a-holes. Those guys just cook.

Ramsey's stuff from the UK is genuinely good.

Yep. The F Word is pretty entertaining and if you just want a cooking show, he has a couple good ones.

I heard that too, it's too bad. The food was actually really good. But it was in a strip mall in bum****. But I guess that describes 80% of Phoenix anyway.

Phoenix is literally the suburb to rule all suburbs. It's just housing development, after housing development, after strip mall, after housing development. Such a weird place. It has a lot of cool stuff but I felt very out of place there. Smaller mountain towns are definitely more to my liking.

It's nice that Phoenix is all on a grid though.

Yeah I did the railroad/backpack excursion into Chicago basin one time. Tried to climb the three 14-ers but only made it up the Southern one. It was awesome, I'd recommend it to anyone. There are a couple of people who skied back up in there and shot a video of it, I'll try to find the link when I get home. It's probably similar to what you were doing.

I also went on a backpacking trip with my ex-girlfriend one time where we came up from the south, went up Vallecito creek and camped a couple of nights.

I love it down there, it reminds me a lot of the Alps because it is so wet. I don't think people realize how much it rains down in that area compared to other parts of the Rockies. Plus it's remote as well.

Edit: Here's a pretty good video of a couple of dudes doing the Chicago Basin trip if anybody wants to check it out.

I actually haven't been out in the Chicago basin ever. Had a couple opportunities to ride the train and climb the peaks but have always had other obligations. I'm planning on trying all three 14ers this summer at least. The train starts back up in a couple weeks so that will give an opportunity to do it without doing the enormous round trip like this last weekend.

Finally found that video collage, Smiley. It's not quite as extensive a video as I remember, but it's still pretty cool.

Skiing in the Weminuche FWIW I think these guys are nuts
Chris Davenport and his group are a bunch of badasses. Such a sick trip report. It inspired me on my trip for sure. They used the train though so it's less legit

Right, bunch of rookies :sarcasm:

That train ride is awesome in of itself, though.

About the Chicago Basin trip, it seems to be more popular these days than when I went, at least judging from the videos. I can't remember running into more than 10 people the whole trip, much less the throngs of people getting on and off the train. Then again it might depend on the time of year or day of the week you go, who knows?

Tonight is going to be really bittersweet for me. Today is the day my CEO officially steps down, and we are throwing a huge party for him tonight. He will still be around for 6 months or so to help with the transition, but this is his last real day of giving a crap. I'm stoked for him and what he will be doing (running a fishing guide boat in Costa Rica), but I'm losing a friend and mentor who has helped shape me and my career over the past 7 years. I know the friendship will always be there and I can always ask him for advice, but it will just be different.

Shame that your mentor is leaving but you should definitely go visit him

I'm pretty sure half the reason I buy vegetables is so girls don't judge me when they come over and look in my fridge.

My friend just told me he doesn't wear socks in his hockey skates. He's a goalie but still WTF?! He claims that 75% of the tenders he know don't wear them and even 30% of regular skaters. I'm blown away. From my 10 years of playing I don't remember a single person who didn't wear socks. Is this something I just straight up missed? Do people really go sock-less in skates frequently?

I've never done that. I've never really even heard of it. That sounds crazy painful everytime you take a shot, especially in the days before fenders.

Just wanted to brag a bit. The league I admin for is having its inaugural Finals series start tomorrow. We have special guest stopping by to drop the puck ... Saku Koivu. He will also be presenting the trophies for regular season MVP (named for and sponsored by Johnny Oduya), and the unsponsored Best Goalie (Jennings, not Vezina).
