Where I come from we call them stairs.

Where I come from - when the stairs move - we call them escalators. Which is why I said 'escalators' rather than 'stairs'.

The stairs aren't always broken at DIA. The escalators are.

Nickleback has one good song and it wasn't even made by them, but the cover of Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting

I'm taking my daughter to a concert tonight, in the Springs:

Dying Blynd (local band, never seen 'em)
Over The Castle (all-girl band from Castle Rock, never seen 'em)
The Nearly Deads
Bad Seed Rising
Eyes Set To Kill

Other concerts coming to the Springs over the next couple months that I'll be going to:

Icon For Hire

Xandria

Knee High Fox

Wednesday 13

Stitched Up Heart

September Mourning

NOT Nickelback!!!
(nor Chevelle, nor Breaking Benjamin...)
You should go and see Chevelle, their last two albums are brutal in regards to being quite heavy for a rock band.

From their new album.
$1 subs at Jimmy John's from now to 8PM
$13 Whichwich > $1 JJ's

Lumping in the Foo Fighters with those bands just looks wrong.

As far as post-grunge goes, Seether is a favorite of mine.
Seether is Godawful, they're Creed level bad. That whole genre is like eating stale saltine crackers. It fills you up and saves you from hunger, but it's not like a good steak or sushi. I think Filter is a really underrated band around that genre, always seem to be forgotten.

I always loved Arabic sound, some of the most underappreciated throughout the globe so I've been listening to this lately...

and I am still a Prog Metal fan and Voyager is ridiculously good for not being amazingly popular.

I'm well aware all of their songs are the same song, yes.

Has anyone here ever read any of the books from The Kingkiller Chronicle? I just started The Name of the Wind a few days ago, and it's taking a bit of patience on my part to really be pulled into the world.

I'm planning on reading either The Dark Tower series or The Dresden Files series once I'm done with The Kingkiller Chronicle - anyone have any recommendations one way or the other?

I've pitched it here a couple times. Give it some time. It is definitely my favorite series, though the author is taking his sweet time on the third book.

I haven't gotten around to the other two series you mentioned, though I mean to

I just got through the part where a young Kvothe learns about Alar. It's been pretty slow up to then, but I imagine things will start to pick up soon. It's just taken a bit longer to get into the action than the other books I've read recently.

I don't think any book will ever start as slow as The Stand did, though. The first few hundred pages of that book were all about the build-up.

it definitely starts off slow and on my first read I didn't care much for the old Kvothe chapters, though I did on my next reads. There isn't a lot of real action in the first book. I just really like Kvothe and how in-depth the magic system is. Honestly, the first book doesn't really have plot. Things just happen and it just sort of works

My dog just ate my $500 headphones. I'm very upset.

On the other hand I went to a local store which has a clearance bin of some workout gear. I use 2XU compression for some of my specific workouts and that stuff is very expensive. Anyway they had all their gear marked down to 50% off and then had another clause that you can take an additional 50% off all clearance items. I bought 3 pairs of $170 compression pants for $40 each. I'm thinking about going back and buying what they have left to sell on ebay lol.

The magic system is certainly unique. I'm digging the combination of "classical magic" and "theoretical magic" that's being introduced. Also, some of the monsters/beings that have been named thus far sound really interesting.

I recently read through the The Witcher series of books, and something that I loved about that series was the variety of creatures/monsters/beings introduced, and all of their different motives. I'd recommend that series, if you haven't read it before. It's still worthwhile, even if you haven't played any of the games.

Yeah, the Kingkiller series is good but it definitely takes awhile to get going. My biggest knock is that the plot just seems to meander around with no real direction. Every time I think it's heading in a certain direction, it just drags on in a separate one. Very interested to see how old Kvothe and the current Kvothe will intertwine. Can't help but feeling he has a long way to go in the third book...if it ever comes out.

You should also check out the First Law Series by Joe Abercrombie. Had a lot of buddies reccomend that and I've enjoyed it so far. Just finished the first and there are two (maybe three?) more.
