Wasn't me that mentioned them, but I've been a fan of theirs since John Buccigross turned me on to them back when he used to write blogs about hockey, music and Shjon Podein for ESPN.
Good lad. Listen to that at 11:30PM Alaskan time and weep.
Once, probably ten or so years ago I had a dream that I played backup for the Tampa Bay Lightning. I think I played in a game and did kind of okay. Other than that it's either running and hiding from killing sprees, or hiding from the police after I supposedly commit some ridiculous crime that makes no sense.

I'm sure I don't have to read into it.
The first hockey dream I ever remember having was one where I was supposed to be playing in the playoffs for the Avalanche but I got stuck in an art gallery with Paul Kariya. I don't think I've had many since. I had a dream about Hayley Williams the other week where she turned up at my work and I kept going about telling everyone she was an angel.

Oh, yeah there's also a real classic where I try to get to class or work or something and am somehow completely unable to make progress in getting there.

I'm sure I had a dream or two about Hayley Williams in my teen years.

I envy those that dream. Sleep is nothing more than blackness for me. I also wake up more tired than when I went to bed.

God getting old sucks.
If you really wanna dream, quickly drink something high in caffeine then fall asleep within 30 minutes. The caffeine will make your brain work while sleeping. But if you fail to fall asleep before the caffeine kicks in, well then you're screwed.

I don’t dream much, but when I do I typically don’t remember them. But the dream I remember the most is a stress dream of me failing to put my contacts in on an endless loop.

With it being 2023, a lot of albums are due to turn 20 years old. Check back in two years and then again in 2027, when this will have happened to 80% of the music I listen to.

These always have a few where I quite like the band, but didn't listen to their album, so then I go and have a listen. This time it's these ones:

Machine Head, Celldweller, Stabbing Westward.

It always really shows our difference in taste when it comes to metal when I cherry pick these.

I guess Omens didn't break 50.

Omens was really close, I'd put it in the honorable mentions if I had that. It was a really good album, but this was a good year and I had over 120 albums to choose from so in the end it didn't make it into those last spots.

The Stabbing Westward album is really good, on the level of Darkest Days easily. It was a long wait to get to the release of the album but the end result was fantastic, in the end I couldn't put more than five releases ahead of it.

That's wild. I'll definitely listen to this now.

Another thing that's wild is that you have 120 albums in a year, when I have like 12.

It's kind of gotten out of control... I started following new releases weekly, finding all kinds of sources for how to keep track of them, and it just snowballed. I'm always afraid that I'll miss one that turns out to be terrific, there's a couple on my list that were surprises. I heard a lot of stuff that I didn't listen to more than once, too, the 120 number is just things I listened to multiple times.

I listen to music probably 6-7 hours a day at work, too, that lets me keep tabs on everything. I enjoy music so much though that it doesn't feel like "work" to keep up, at least for now.

Yeah, I listen to like 4-6 hours of music and podcasts a day at work, too. New podcasts, some music from 2005, then an old podcast from 2017 that I've heard six times.

On the subject of dreams, I gave myself sleep paralysis for the first time the other night. I'd been up at the toilet at some point and my room door wasn't closed as tightly as usual, so there was a bit of light coming in. When I was in med looking at it either awake/asleep my arms were suddenly up in the air with intense pins and needles, and there were coloured lights running around the edges of the ceiling. I knew what was happening and I was looking to see if any people/figures appears, but they didn't. I had another slightly less intense episode shortly after where instead of the colours, I heard this mass of noise that was like every sound possible all at once. It was over quickly and I went back to sleep (I assume).

Dang, glad you didn't have to endure any figures or demons that seem to be fairly common with sleep paralysis. That Netflix documentary about it was horrifying.

I realised quite quickly what it was and was quite excited to see what popped up. Ended up mildly disappointed it was only a bit of a light show.

You just have to love immigration processing... I leave early Saturday to start work in the Bahamas for a couple weeks. I sent everything in a month ago, called today... still in process. May or may not be completed by the time I'm on the ground. May or may not matter. May or may not be traveling Saturday.

I know it's not your cup of tea, but Colours II by BTBAM was probably the best album of the year for me easily. Really good year for albums regardless.

You need to cheque out Voyager's new song, "Submarine," they hit it out of the park again mate.

Oh yeah! I've heard the new Voyager song, it's awesome. I'm hopeful for a proper album in 2023, nothing's been announced yet but they're due to release new material.

And you know, I should check out BTBAM again. I know they've changed their sound a lot in recent years and it's probably time I revisited them. I'll give that album a shot.

They got a good discography, but Colours I, Colours II, and Alaska are definitely their highlight albums if you were to listen to anything first. I actually think Colours II could be the best album they've made, but that's my personal opinion.

I was wondering if you could give me your thoughts on Haken and Shadow Gallery. I listened to Cockroach King by Haken and a random song from Shadow Gallery and both were extremely good. Are they as bands worth chequing out by any chance or is there an album I should give a try first from their discography? I ask because I don't really have that much free time anymore to spend hours listening to full bands discs..
