I've been listening to a lot of Cypress Hill recently when it comes to rap.

Otherwise I've been listening to a lot of Lamb of God.

I can't stand Kanye, when I was Uber driving and the college kids would take the aux cord, I always dreaded them putting his stuff on. Pompous, self indulgent garbage. I can appreciate rap if it's good, but Kanye is like sandpaper in my brain with how shallow and egotistical it is. Some of the worst music I've ever heard.
Funny, that’s what happened to me. I was Uber driving and some kids wanted to listen to Kanye. I kind of liked it for some reason.

Lol, Cypress Hill was one of my groups’ go to’s in high school. Hits from the bong, ftw

Going to see Lamb of God live in a couple of weeks, for the first time in a long time. They're one of those bands I've always seemed to miss for one reason or another lately but this time they're headlining in Denver and I've got tickets. They crush it live so it should be a great show even if I'm not into the opening acts.

New album coming 10/7 too, that sounds really promising based on the singles so far.

Kanye was a better producer than rapper for me. I never really enjoyed his style of rap, nor his lyrical content. I personally can see no argument for any of his albums being in contention for best hip hop album ever either. He'd have to surpass the likes of Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, Mobb Deep, Biggie, Wu Tang, etc to be in that conversation and he really isn't, although he thinks he is. There's not a rap album that has ever surpassed Nas - Illmatic in my mind, it was just so f***ing good and so f***ing timely. It is an incredible timeless body of work.

Oh huh, come to think of it, they're in my non-Helsinki home town this November. And there are still tickets because apparently it's on a Monday.

I don't like any of the opening acts either. They're with Kreator. But I definitely agree about the new singles. Now I'm considering it a little.

E: The setlist from earlier this week looks very good, too. I bet they play a lot more of the new stuff on this one though. I would have much rather seen Killswitch Engage as the opener, but those guys could headline here.

If you've never seen them live, I'd say it's worth it. Like I said, I haven't personally seen them in years, but I saw them three or four times before that and they're great live. Veteran touring bands like that always seem to know their stuff when it comes to getting a crowd going. It translates really well to a live setting.

I mean comparing any album to Illmatic is problematic. Every album ever is worse than that. I certainly don't think old Kanye is GOAT worthy, but he's certainly up there as a HOF level guy at his peak.

Well, you see, the only international tour I've ever seen live is Dream Theater on the Scenes run.

It still eats at me that I didn't go to Alice in Chains when they supported Rainier Fog in my town, so now I might have to go to this thing.

Fair point. And music is so subjective. I grew up on 90s east coast hip hop in my formative years, so it's hard for anyone else to enter the conversation for me.

I see a lot of live music, I haven't been to one in a few months but I have two the week after next. I've actually never seen AiC though, which is a damn shame. They just played the worst venue in Colorado recently, but I hate that venue so I missed them again. Word is they're working on a follow up to Rainier Fog though, so hopefully they'll come back and play a non-shitty venue sometime, because it's definitely something I want to see someday.

I'd like to be able to rectify my mistake, but I'd say it's an especially slim chance they hit my town again. I'd love to hear new music from them though. I played Rainier Fog a bunch, and I've said it before that post-Layne AiC is criminally underrated.

Definitely very underrated. William Duvall does a great job, all three of those albums have been excellent. The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here is probably my favorite, but they've all got great songs and the vibe is perfect.

I don't think anything has been officially announced regarding a new album, but I remember seeing an interview with Cantrell about them working on a follow-up, so hopefully that arrives next year sometime.

I love Kreator, but I've never been a fan of King Diamond's voice... Mercyful Fate had some alright songs but when he goes into that high register falsetto it just grates on me. Might be worth it just to say I saw them, as I understand it's their first tour in 20 years or something like that. Depends on what tickets go for. The Fillmore is pricy. I'm shelling out for Sabaton and Lamb of God next week but usually the bands I like don't play at venues that size.

Yeah, I get it. King's voice is an acquired taste. I'm doubting he can hit those high notes anymore anyway.

Still, the guitar work on the first 3 releases: Melissa, Don't Break the Oath, and Abigail (King Diamond, not Mercyful Fate) is great. Loved all three of those albums.

This was peak thrash metal in my HS days:

They were my favorite band but then the album Renewal happened and I had to find a new one. Shame.

They've had some good ones since then. Hordes of Chaos and Gods of Violence are both really solid. Their newest one from this year is just OK, it didn't make much of an impression on me. They're still great live though, I saw them with Sabaton a while back and they crushed it.

@abusementpark , Fiona has destroyed our place. Leaks everywhere, no power, trees took our my car, so if I can just let them guys know that I won’t be able to draft by Monday most likely. If we could push it back to next Sunday maybe? Reception towers are super shoddy too so if I can manage to get into my account and change it I can do that. Otherwise I’ll just auto draft lol
