Indeed. Look at how many Goals For he's been on for. Do you think it's unusual for a young, offensively giften player to struggle defensively? Is that unique to this player?

He's also playing for a team that is brutal defensively, with struggling goaltending. For all this talk about advanced stats, you're basically just arguing +/-, which is a number that is only mildly useful when judging a player's performance.

How many Sabres games have you seen?

Hodgson has been brutal in his own zone. Downright brutal. As in, Vanek looks like a Selke nominee compared to him.

It's unique for a young player to completely shirk their defensive responsibility. Normally, you get rookies wanting to impress at least trying to be dependable in their own zone. Hodgson can't be bothered. Goals for indeed... At what expense? This is a 200ft game, not a constant PP for each team.

A great way for someone to stand out on a team that is brutal defensively = play good defense.

Advanced statistics are a great deal more than just +/-. But I'm not even sure why that's brought up considering I just cited Goals Against?

I've derailed this thread enough. I'm happy to debate this further, but it shouldn't be in this thread.

I would suggest taking it to the Ex Canucks discussion thread.

On another note: What do people think about PK Subban's future in MTL. Is he there for a while, or will he be traded soon?

Tbh I'm surprised he's still there. I thought he'd be traded immediately after signing.

Sarcastic?

I really do think he's on borrowed time in MTL. There's something not right there in that locker room based on the comments of his teammates, and "insiders".

Nope, you remember how when he was signed he didn't play right away? He missed a game or two, I was positive it was because a trade was in the works.

Ah yes, I thought that was odd too. He's not there long term. If I'm Gillis I throw a lot MTL's way to get them to consider dealing him here. What would be the ballpark? 1st + good prospect? Roster players? They're competing now so perhaps picks/prospects don't really serve them.

His on ice attitude/skill set would sure be a nice addition to the team, depends how much of a headache he actually is off the ice. He hates Marchand though, so he's ok in my books.

Is Montreal a "win now" team? I guess so eh, just kind of a bad one. Any deal like this would have to involve Ballard going the other way (unless we're talking off season).

What? Daniel Sedin is a multi-dimensional player? What else does he offer, if he is not scoring?
Well that's a rather silly comment, Daniel can hold his own, back checks hard and more importantly, he can hold the puck in the offensive zone for extended periods of time which prevents the puck from being in the back of our net. Sedin has average to above average defensive awareness, saying otherwise is foolish. The type of forward I was referring to is one that is below average on the defensive side of the puck.

He's not the only one their GM's have tried to give "lowball bridge contracts" after their ELC (see Price). We'll have to see whether that was a good strategy to take in retaining your better developing players.

If FLA is out of the playoffs, I could see them being sellers, what do you think it would take to get Brian Campbell. (yes, I know his contract is horrible, but he's a good player and a PP QB) and he plays on his off side.

The issue with any salary going the other way is that MTL is at 69m+ already, with a lot persistent contracts, so it may work this year, but next year I'm not sure how they get under. Buyout Kaberle? They also already have Markov and Gorges manning the left side there...

Is Kaberle a right-side Dman? If forget. If not, then they already have a large amount of their D salary going to the left side.

Edit: What are the restrictions on amnesty buyouts? For example, could the Canucks do the following and buyout Kaberle right away?

Kaberle + Subban for Raymond + Ballard + Connauton?

This way, MTL is sending more salary back this way, upgrade Kaberle - which could make up the difference in Raymond vs. Subban? Wishful thinking I know, but I really do wonder about Subban's value among the GMs. What do they view him as? Subban makes slightly more than Raymond (2.6m per cap hit), so it's conceivable that Gillis is able to retain the D as it is next year under the 64.3m cap. All it does is replace Raymond's expected 3m~ with Subban's 2.6m.

I asked this in the other thread. I think he would be a great addition not sure how the contract fits next year. However, if Florida has interest in rebuilding with a great goalie, without giving up young prospects Campbell could be a big piece. Perhaps just a draft pick or Clemmenson coming with him. That helps the Canucks this year and possibly into the future. Others know the capspace better than me. Perhaps this costs Ballard and Booth in the off season as well. Perhaps the trade can be made bigger by sending a d man back with Luongo hard to see a fit there.

Punching bag? :sarcasm:

Oh too funny! I just read this and had a good belly laugh. I must say that just because Daniel Sedin does not play a physical game, that does not mean he is not a great player. But just imagine how fabulous the Sedin Twins would be if they had a nasty edge to their amazing skill. The other teams would doubly hate playing against them.

Is unfortunate that we didn't get Justin Schultz in the off season, he seems like what we need right now, PP Specialist RHD, not to mention he's on a ELC and we can play him in the bottom pairing. Too bad he wants to play top pairing minutes and there's no way he could get that this year in the Canucks line up.
Don't think Brian Campbell would fit here, just too much $ tied up to the D even if we shipped out ballard + booth + whoever for him.

The Justin Schultz boat has sailed. What about getting Subban from Montreal?

Kaberle + Subban for Raymond + Ballard + Connauton?

I don't think this offer is even in the stratosphere. Subban looks well on his way to becoming one of the best dmen in the NHL.

To MTL- Ballard, Jensen, 1st
To Van- Subban

Something along those lines. That probably doesn't even get it done.

Brian Campbell has a cap hit of 7.14 million until 2016. If the canucks trade Luongo this year they should be looking to get a good contract in return, otherwise they are screwing themselves over next year when the cap goes down for only marginal improvement this year.

They'll get much better offers than that. Don't think he'd fit in here anyhow.
