I think you confused looking REALLY good with looking not REALLY bad.

Well, there's REALLY good for the Canes, which is above average for your typical NHL team. And if they can remain above average, that's all it really takes.

Kassian to MTL. Would have been a good pickup for the right price, fits the system.

I guess the hope is that a lot of the issues last year were simply because the team struggled to adjust to Peters' system. This year, there will hopefully be very little adjustment and the team should theoretically (in combination with a slightly healthier roster) get off to a decent start.

I mean, there was a couple months last year where the team looked REALLY good. I don't think it's a coincidence that it came almost immediately after the team got its 2nd line center back.

This is true, *but* that was before we traded Sekera, Tlusty and Gleason and bought out Semin. We're not even the team we ended last season with. This is just going to be bad.

is a direction for this club too much to ask for? either do something to try and compete while you've still got the Staals, or completely blow the thing up and start over.

this never ending cycle of being stuck in the middle thing is incredibly tiring.

Interesting idea of leaving spots open as a carrot, rather than filling the holes and condemning the kids to the AHL. Definitely opposite of JR's time here.

I feel like we're going to be this year's Buffalo, blatantly tanking from the start for No. 1 overall. I don't think that's the tack I'd choose, but I think it's fairly obvious at this point. I don't think there's any need to spend five years rebuilding in today's NHL, but that's what it looks like is the plan.

If so, I hope Eric and Cam have good seasons and we trade them at the deadline. No point trading Eric now. That would help too much immediately and we can't have that.

Boy, you must be a blast to hang out with. If you look at that roster and think it's BUF of last year, you really are as off as you portray yourself. It's the same **** as every other year, 5-10 pick.

What?

Like that time when JR penciled Dalpe in as the 2nd line RW?

Or that time when JR penciled Welsh in as the 3rd line C?

This. One million times this. I've been saying this for five years. I'm not sure how much longer I can take it, and I'm not sure why everyone can't see it.

But there are no top 6 ahl players ready, let alone for NHL duty. Charlotte's best forward is either boychuk or larose.

They're hoping lack is good enough they can trap like hell and win 35 games 3 2. Loser point pushes them into playoffs.

The only real loss that hasn't really been replaced is Semin.

- We lost a top-4 defenseman in Sekera and grabbed Wisnewski to replace him.
- We lost Gleason and it's expected that Hanifin will play in a similar role (on the roster chart, at least).
- Tlusty didn't contribute jack-all last year, so literally any warm body could replace him.

Now Semin's only difficult to replace if you believe he was going to put up 40-50 points this upcoming year. If you don't, then any 2nd/3rd line tweener could effectively fill his spot in the lineup.
