Same can be said about every player in the roster. What if they don't continue like this?
What if they suddenly become top NHL players? What if next year we're contenders? What if..what if...?
New talents will come in next years and some players who failed to achieve will be dismissed. Dach and Newhook are surely among them if they play under expectations. So what's negative about that?

You give more credence to the negative bias and dismiss the positive.....everything is wrong with that as it is devoid of nuance and feels more antagonistic than it does analytical.

You dismiss the positive with "What if they don't continue like this" as a nebulous blanket statement but you fail to do the same with the negative bias.....it is a grossly engineered methodology that doesn't permit nuanced discussion. The fact that you doubled down on it is both troubling and very telling but very consistent with your user name....is that coincidental?

The only neboulous blankets are put by posters who are decieveing themselves with thinking that these roster players have some hidden treasures ready to be uncovered and explode.
When we got Dach we were chanting "yes! steal"!, "wow, 3rd OA is ours" and noone was bothered by the fact that on the same forum there were people who were writing " thank god, good riddance!" First ones didn't watch him game after game, second ones did.
It's a player which was booted by the club who drafted him, cause they deemed him not good for a rebuild they are doing. This is the reality.
When Dach got injured a year ago, people who were writing that it's a serious injury and that it will be dubious Dach will return to his pre injury form quickly after rehabiltation where deemed amateurs with "ACL surgery is a routine. no big deal. he'll be as good as new" replies. Now he needs how many games to be called "as good as new"? 30? 40? 50?
Influx of new, more talented forwards forward in our roster in next years is a fact and guys like Dach or Newhook will have to work hard for a new contract. That's the reality. You can call it negativity if you want.

This isn't accurate.

1. Dach leaving Chicago was a mutual decision. They mismanaged his wrist injury and I think he was more than happy to get out of there. I don't think Chicago ever thought 'this guy sucks'... moving him was part of a rebuild move. It made sense from their perspective because things had soured with him in large part because of how they'd mismanaged things.
2. It was considered a 'potential' steal but many here were worried about the wrist injury - which has not been a factor.
3. He played really well when healthy. Tragic that he got hurt but not predictable. Fluke injury that could happen to any player.

It's true that he may not come back. Sometimes that's how it works out. He's missed a lot of hockey in his young career and there's no doubt it's hurt him. But that doesn't mean he wasn't worth the gamble. Sometimes you just get the shaft.

As for Dach, I still think he's got a lot of runway. I wouldn't write him off. It's a marathon not a sprint and he's too good a talent to throw away. Let's just see how it goes with him. I'm hoping he can break out of his funk. He's shown good play in streaks, just needs to get more consistent.

There is no giving up on Dach in the here and now. Signed for 2 more years and I think he has that time to figure things out so that means Laine and Demidov coming in over this year and next, so should help Dach.

Dach has the ability, we have seen it. He's missed alot of time and missing last season hurts him developmentally but he does look tentative.

But this was a real good game for him. Hopefully a big step in reestablishing his confidence.

Team wise though if Dach doesn't seize the 2C spot this year, we have to acquire a 2C.

I don't know why everyone is trying to find "excuses". He's not a sinner, it was a good game for him, he lost some pucks but also won a lot.

You see contract holdouts who miss preseason look like ass for 20-30 games, cut the guy who missed a full season with injury some slack.

Hate to say it but sometimes those holdouts can be sub par for the whole year.

Swayman seems to be suffering as well, who knows for how long.

We saw that first hand 20 years ago when Theodore took a step back in the 02/03 season before bouncing back in 03/04.

We saw what he can be when he is healthy and confident. He is probably really hard on him but im sure he'll find his swagger back.

One thing tho, can he shoot the f***ing puck. He's always looking to pass even when he have the best position to shoot. Always been his biggest problematic. He need to trust his shoot because if not he is really predictable

Dach, Newhook and Dvorak are the three players that are having the greatest impact on this team's fortunes right now. If those three turned it around you would see this team climb from the basement back to the 80-point pace that most of us predicted they would achieve.

Dach has the skill just not putting in effort.

Yes I know, but he is a NHL player he clearly can shoot the puck. Sometime the best play is to shoot, but he always try the extra pass.

Its probably due to his lack of confidence but sometime its so frustrating watching him on the PP because he try nothing.

and needn't be viewed as anything more than venting on the nearest soft target.

Sure, this is the nature of sports commentary. This is nothing new. But this target, like many before him (eg Drouin) is soft for a reason: he has never hit his potential.

When the team is losing and this high-potential player plays soft and loose and does not produce, it will be discussed and evaluated. The injury excuse is valid, hence the discussions and counter-arguments. It isn’t an angry mob just yet.

He's playing better but he looks so lazy on the PP , very casual and non assertive , hope he can get back to form but that stuff
( effort/lackadaisical play/bad puck management) doesn't pass in this market
