@Kupo @Rangers743 any cool EU4 campaigns lately? I'm in the mid 1600s on my first Byzantium run, it's sooooo much fun. Ottos were gone by 1500.
Haven't played EU4 in a little bit but I think I'll start a new campaign soon. Byzantium always one of my favorite nations to play with, especially when you have the Purple Pheonix DLC's the number of missions they have are pretty insane.

This remake should have been a slam dunk and they blew it by changing the battle system. They made it look incredible then changed one of the things that defines the early Final Fantasy games. Not to mention the potential for chaptered releases which is also insulting since they will charge out the ass for each installment. I'm really disappointed about this, I was so excited for it so I can't help but be bitter.
No way would SE keep the battle system. No one under 15 would give a classic ATB system a second glance unfortunately. So they've kind of incorporated ATB differently. Your basic moves (attack, defend etc.) fill an ATB and after a few regular moves you can access an ability or magic. Something like that. Doesn't sound as blasphemous as a hack and slash so I'll take it.

I'm very excited for fleshing out characters and relationships. In fact, I'd like to see Cloud and Tifa's relationship develop further later in the game, always felt that was a weak point in the original.

I really hope they include story elements from Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core. I never played any of the spinoffs and it sounds like they (or at least CC) has a lot of backstory.

Considering how much of my damn time is spent dealing with business matters, I have no idea why I am continually drawn to management games, tycoon games or builders.

Speaking of Paradox, I am very interested to see how Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 comes out.

The original is one of my faves, which is saying something considering how buggy it was.

How someone hasn't taken that IP and made a hit TV show out of it is beyond me.

I've long been interested in EU franchise, but I've never pursued it.
I'd highly recommend it if you're into grand strategy games. The only thing that sucks is all the dlc and while 80% is not needed there are paid expansions that are mandatory in order to enjoy the game. Pdox games are always on sale during the steam summer sale so now is prob the best time to get into it

Ok no console war please.

I need a break from esports on PC. I want to play more single player games or non esport multiplayer.

If YOU were buying a console today given those constraints, based on the online system and games, which system would you get?

I made a similar move couple of years ago and got a PS4 over xbox1, due to the larger amount of console exclusive games that I found interesting. I still think I made the right choice and, if anything, the exlusivity gap between xbox one and ps4 has grown larger. The PS4 exclusives tend to focus mainly on single player, though some also have multiplayer. Most of the exclusives are also praised by both players and critics. You should note that you'll need a paid PS+ subscribtion in order to play games online. I think most / all Free-to-play online games can however be played without a PS+. To my knowledge PS4 has the largest online playerbase of any console, though naturally this might vary between games.

I also own a Nintendo Switch, which also has several interesting exclusives. However the game library on it is a bit smaller, since it's a younger console. Lot of the games do have a cartoony look, which seems to bother some players. Switch also requires a paid subscribtion for online play, though it's significantly cheaper than on PS4. Everything regarding online play on Switch seems to be lagging 10-15 years behind every other platform. I love playing on Switch but it might be an acquired taste.

I'm by no means an expert on anything Xbox1 related but it seems that almost all of the games on it can also be found on a PC, though if you're taking a break from PC-gaming it might not matter.

While I'm currently mostly playing on my Switch, I'd easily recommend a PS4 for any adult interested in single player games. Switch shines in couch co-op and kids tend to love it.

Some good PS4 exclusives: Uncharted-series, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Spider-Man, Persona 5, The Last of Us, Bloodborne, God of War, Days Gone.
and exclusives for Switch: Tetris 99, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario+Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, Super Mario Odyssey, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

(some are remasters or have versions on ps2 / ps3 but I still call them exclusives on this gen)

Thanks bud.

I had been with Xbox for a while, but I was thinking, and you've confirmed, that PS has more games for single player as well as very good but not AAA market titles.

I was a Nintendo lover in my youth. I still want to love Nintendo, but I wish they would broaden their market a bit.

Anyone else try out the REAL FF7 remake, i.e. New Threat? I'm playing through it right now and am having a blast. Difficulty is ramped up, battles are much more tactical and abilites that could be safely ignored in the original are suddenly crucial (esp. buffs and debuffs). I bought the Steam version of the game just to be able to play the mod.

Currently trying to morph all the enemies on the Corel train for OP equipment, but it's quite the challenge - have failed about 6 times in a row now (mostly due to accidentally killing the enemy, though the time limit is a pain if you want to get everything).

Seems to me like Xbox One (specifically the Xbox One X) has the better hardware and is full 4k compatible.

The PS 4 Pro has a better game environment, but is only 2k and is not quite the total home theater system that the Xbox One X is.

Personally I have both a regular pS4 and an Xbox One X.

Yeah I played it when it first game out on Insane Difficulty a few years ago ( I was a regular on that forum before the administrator shut it down :( ). I was at the god knows what # Guard Scorpion Battle at the temple of the Ancients and then my computer took a shit.

The Bronze Dragon battle where the scorpion actually helps you? Had to redo that one a few times on "normal" difficulty, the dragon immediately wipes your party in one move if the scorpion is petrified/killed. The following pincer Demon's Gate battle was a breeze in comparison.

Yeah. That was the one. Sega Chief did such a great job with that mod. Sad I lost contact with him and all the other Devs of some of the best mods out there (FF7, FF8, FFT, Breath of Fire, Metroid, etc). I am happy that the old ID website was at least hosted elsewhere for fans to access all the original content.

What can you do on it? I only ever use my ps4 for Netflix/Youtube. What more is there?

It's really good, I've got about 250 hours into EU4 and counting. There's a LOT to learn when you first start, but it's am incredibly deep game.

I find myself thinking about my runs at work and strategizing my next moves or thinking up other avenues of expansion. My current run I'm playing as Great Britain, it's about 1620 and I've conquered most of France, and I'm now looking at expanding in Indonesia and India. So many things to do and it just eats time away.

Yeah, that's the other thing that's rough about it. It's not so bad buying one every year or so, but all of it right at once is tough. The integral ones are probably Common Sense and Art of War, if I had to pick 2.

Been getting into Monster Hunter World recently, and boy does it really show the age on my hardware. Wew.

Definitely think it's time to consider upgrading to Zen 2 and better RAM. But also need to save for an engagement ring...

Hmmmm...decisions decisions decisions...

Summer is always so damn slow for new releases. I always go back and see what I missed. Just blew through Metro Exodus and FarCry new Dawn. New Dawn was far better than FC5 if anyone is wondering. Shorter, 20ish hours. Miss the Dark souls and Witcher games so much I just started Dragons Dogma. Anyone ever play through that?

The Xbox One? You can run your cable through it. It can be a DVR. It can control other devices. It can really be a hub for your entertainment center.

The PS4 doesn't even have infrared sensor, so universal remotes won't even work with it, unless you get an adapter.

And again, the PS4 Pro isn't even full 4k. The Xbox One X is full 4k.

So if you want to be watching streaming or disc 4k on a massive big screen TV, the Xbox One X is the way to go. That's why I have both -- the PS4 is the better games, IMO, but the Xbox One X is better at running a media center.

If gaming were the only issue, would you be happier with your PS4 or Xbox One X?

I have both and have leaned heavier on the XB1 personally. Now, having said that, some context is required.

I was a PS1 and PS2 guy and did not own a Microsoft console until the Xbox 360 (last generation).

However, I ended with a lot of games last generation that I particularly enjoyed. I also went back and purchased several original Xbox games to play. I didn't have a particular desire to get a PS3, because there wasn't much on there I felt I was missing.

This generation I started with an XB1, and added a PS4 significantly later. The latter has allowed me to carry over many games that I still enjoy playing, while also enabling me to play the latest entries in a number of series. In a weird way I like being able to play multiple games of a series on a single console.

I added a PS4 because there were a number of exclusives I wanted to play, and because there were some older PS2 games that I was able to play as well.

I tend to enjoy Microsoft's overall game library better, but Sony has the edge on exclusives for this generation.

I will also say that I will likely go with the two console approach for the next generation, assuming Sony matches Microsoft's commitment to backwards compatibility. For me, that's a big selling point.

These days I really only play sports games on PS4, mostly with friends online. Fifa, NBA, NHL. Very sporadic b/c I just got too much going on now.

But man I think I hit a breaking point with EA's VC scam. You either have to play these games half your life, or drop another 50-60 bucks on VC to even compete online. I'm not even talking FUT/HUT. Just Fifa Pro, 2K ProAm, etc.

Though I guess that's one thing NHL got right, in an otherwise awful spiral to that franchise. No VC on EASHL.

PS4..... without really any reservation. Probably recommending the PS4 Pro, so you at least get the option of "better than 1080p" resolution.

Especially if, as the OP said, they also PC game.

As has been mentioned, many of the Xbox "exclusives" are exclusive to Xbox among the consoles but are also available on PC. Very little on Xbox that's not also on PC.

Whereas there is lots of PS4 stuff that's not on PC.
