Post-game meltdowns in the Leafs forum are good reading. Mind blowing how quickly fans turn on Matthews, Tavares, etc.
Logic schmogic ... SUN BELT HOCKEY BAY-BEEEEE! Go Stars Go!Cats tried hard to blow it in the 3rd. Numerous defensive lapses. The Bob bailed them out.
Very odd so far, Leafs have won the games they should have lost and lost the games they had the edge in. I think many fans will be bothered by this series in that they could have won both games except for short periods of ineptitude. And it's hard not to question Stars when they get 20 shots and no goals while their turnovers have lead directly to goals against.Leafs got out of the first round for the first time in how many decades? Their fans will have to be happy with surpassing that milestone.
They may have played their last home game, that’s why.Knies is out. Can't speculate what happened to him.
Oh yeah... awful quiet in Toronto all of a sudden.
That's a really tough question to answer. He gets better each year and each playoff year so if this is his top I say no but if he continues this trajectory until UFA I say he will be. As an easy comparable he scores at about same regular season rate as Draisaitl but when the playoffs start Matthews isn't even in the same world as Draisaitl. Is Matthews a $13m /AAV player?
Toronto has played 8 playoff games this season and Matthews has gotten on the scoresheet in ... [checks notes] ... 8 of them. That's a really tough question to answer. You have to watch the game rather than the sheet. And I said he gets better each year but reality is Matthews is not winning his match-up most nights but has scored more this year than others. And tonight was a great example where he got a point but ended up minus as a bad giveaway by him ended up in Leafs bet in bad start to 2nd.Toronto has played 8 playoff games this season and Matthews has gotten on the scoresheet in ... I watched the whole game except for part of the 3rd when I was eating dinner and talking on the phone, and I've just gone back and re-watched replays of the goals to make sure I'm not insane. You have to watch the game rather than the sheet. He needs to improve on current play to be worth $13 million if you want to win. He is good enough to dominate but hasn't yet in post season.
That was both of their turnover, they do that cute stuff way too much. I'm not sure how you can argue the big game player stuff when their line gets outplayed most nights for several seasons. Like I said he has grown this year but imo he needs to grow more to be worth $13 million. Even this year while the goals went in and they won round one I would hardly call it a great performance overall for any Leafs, they just happened to win when they usually don't in similar situation.I watched the whole game except for part of the 3rd when I was eating dinner and talking on the phone, and I've just gone back and re-watched replays of the goals to make sure I'm not insane.
That wasn't Matthews's bad giveaway -- Marner made a stupid pass backwards, into traffic and into the center of the ice. Exact opposite of where a D zone breakout needs to go. I don't know why Marner did that, I think he was trying to be cute and maintain possession at all cost, and when he skated into a dead end, he didn't want to just chip it off the boards and out. End result was Matthews eyes down, receiving a puck on his backhand with a Panther in his face. Goes down as AM's turnover, but Marner hung him out to dry badly on that play.
On the 2nd goal, McCabe caught in possession and I don't know what the hell Nylander was doing. Even still, it wasn't a great shot by Barkov, and if Samsonov would have made a fairly routine save, the energy doesn't get sapped out of the building before everyone makes it back from the concourse.
I don't like "not a big game player" narratives in general, and that turnover was not AM's fault.
Been there done that. Plus Bryz was way smarter and funnier. Can the Coyotes sign this guy for his entertaining interviews??? Unfortunately an average goalie
TO doesn't have McDavid feeding Matthews. That's a really tough question to answer. Bryz sure was fun! Definitely funny, definitely smart… maybe too smart, got his and got out… poor PhillyBeen there done that. Plus Bryz was way smarter and funnier.
Marner is no slouch. Don't shift the blame, neither is getting it done.TO doesn't have McDavid feeding Matthews.
Big one tonight!Congratulations @AZviaNJ !
I thought this would be the year the Devils learned a few lessons during a 1st round defeat.... WRONG!
I suppose there's still some remnants of the excellence from the past floating around they ingested over the course of their 1st round win.....perhaps Marty B was in the ear of your goalie last night.
