I like what Garth Brooks did for country. But lately, it all sounds the same- male and female vocalists alike, and they all follow the same "look".

So being in North Florida and in an outdoor field of study, some people did not like when I pointed out that the tropes of bro country and radio driven R&B are so much the same. There was a lot of incredulous "oh no"'s in that lab van that day.

90s R&B and New Jack Swing needs a revival.

Day 3/25 songs for Christmas countdown: today’s song is Coventry Carol by The Smashup. A post-hardcore band from Brooklyn, they’ve released two albums and appear to be inactive. The song itself is an old English carol. The song choice is my favourite Christmas song, and this version adds some aggression to the song.

This leads credence to the idea that as men age they either wind up smoking meat or brewing beer as a hobby.

There’s talk of Geddy and Alex getting together again to make modern music ;) but it wouldn’t be the same without the professor…

Day 4/25 of songs for Christmas countdown: today’s song is Go Tell It on the Mountain by Zach Williams. He’s a Southern rock artist from Jonesboro, via Pensacola, and has been making music since 2007. The song itself is a rarely done Christmas song.

Day 5/25 of songs for Christmas: today’s song is Last Christmas Children brought to you by Italian DJ duo DJs From Mars. It was released as a free download in 2010. It’s a mashup of Robert Miles’ “Children (Dream version)” and Wham’s “Last Christmas”. It’s definitely a twist on a song that is played everywhere at this time. Only this version wouldn’t be out of place in a dance club.

I would love to hear what someone like Tim Alexander could do with them if they are looking to go a little modern with the music.

Day 6/25 of songs for Christmas countdown: today’s song is Baby Please Come Home by singer songwriter Josh Ramsay. He’s the vocalist and guitarist for Canadian band Mariana’s Trench, and the writer of ear worm song “Call Me Maybe”. While this Christmas song is upbeat no matter who is covering it, this version instead dives into the loneliness that someone might feel.

Day 7/25 of songs for Christmas countdown: today’s song is No Doubt’s cover of Oi to the World by The Vandals. It was released in 1997 on an album for the Special Olympics. It’s a very fast paced ska punk song.

Not for nothing but "Oi!" as a genre was a sub-set of punk that like skinhead had folks from the National Front trying to co-opt it for their recruiting by having some imitation bands.

Day 8/25 of songs of Christmas countdown: today’s song is Christmas Vacation from Canadian singer and songwriter Lølø. She first gained popularity on TikTok doing pop covers before releasing her first song in 2018. This song was released in 2021, and was the first release after she signed with Hopeless Records. This song is comparing a good time in a relationship being like a Christmas vacation as opposed to feeling alone.

Day 8/25 of songs of Christmas countdown is Darkest Carols, Faithful Sing by Sir Christopher Lee. Yes, Saruman and Count Dooku did Christmas songs. This is a metal song, which he was a fan of. It’s done in the key of Hark the Herald Angels Sing. He recorded it in 2013 just before he died, but it wasn’t released until 2014. Also this will not be the only well-known actor doing a Christmas song with a surprising genre

Missing the quintessential wishlist song

I had considered this. But you know, it’s AC/DC. You know what you’re getting with the song. That’s why it’s not in this 25 songs of Christmas list this year. Maybe next year when people forget it exists .

Also ONG and anybody else, give these songs a like just to tell me you’ve checked them out. If you like them cool. If you don’t that’s also cool. At this point I want people to share Christmas songs they like

I've watched all your songs just sometimes the phone and the website don't like each other so have to constantly restart my WiFi to get the page to load. So keep putting out your list I appreciate it and have added some to my seasonal rotation I'll load when I start going to the bars again

Years ago I was working retail at the holidays and we put this on before opening in the morning. One of my coworkers was in an old-timey string band as the vocalist and we were singing this at opposite ends of the store at the top of our lungs. The rest of the opening staff gave us a round of applause at the end of it.

I used to hear this song everywhere. Now not so much.
