Extra bonus Christmas song: this song is about the story we all know regarding the holidays. I love The Killers Xmas songs, but they somehow got Elton John AND the founder of Pet Shop Boys to do a song with them. I have no idea how they got both artists or their label to pay for a free song. This came out in 2008.

I know one of their Christmas songs had Toni Halliday as a collaborator - she of one-time lead vocals for Curve and then married to producer Alan Moulder.

Too bad they stopped doing them.

They did all of them for charity so that's probably how they got Elton.

They’re great songs. I forgot they all were for charity. Even their first Christmas album release was for charity too.

Day 20/25 of songs for Christmas countdown: today we switch things up. Now I’ll be dropping multiple songs now through Monday.

First up is 100 Gecs with their song Sympathy 4 the Grinch. They are a hyperpop duo from St. Louis. This song is about not getting what you want for Christmas and going and getting it. This song is NSFW.

Next up is The Friendly Beasts from indie rock singer songwriter Sufjan Stevens. This song was released on a 2003 EP that he recorded for friends and family instead of giving out Christmas cards. It was then re-released in 2006 on a box set of the EPs. This song is a twist on the Christmas story, as it’s from the viewpoint of the animals as they argue over which one is more important to the birth of Christ.

The final song for today is the cast of Family Guy performing All I Really Want for Christmas. This song was originally released in 2001 as A Family Guy Christmas on a KROQ Christmas album that was released for charity. It was subsequently rewritten and re-recorded for television, adding characters and verses to it. This version was released during season 9 of the show. This song is slightly NSFW.

Day 21/25 of songs for Christmas countdown: the first song today is X-mas Time for the Skins by Washington DC hardcore band Good Clean Fun. The band was in the straight edge movement, which tended to blur the lines with another subgenre of hardcore (Christian hardcore, aka Spirit-filled hardcore) and were active from 1998-2007. This song was released in 2000 on a split 7” with Throwdown. It’s a cover of a 1986 song by New Jersey hardcore band Crucial Youth. It’s about skinheads celebrating the holiday instead of fighting each other.

The next song is Every Bell on Earth Will Ring by The Oh Hellos. They’re an indie folk duo from Oklahoma. The group is fronted by the Heath siblings. This song was released in 2011 on their Christmas EP, which was their second release. It’s an amalgamation of 3 different Christmas songs. I’ve posted both the regular version and a live mini concert, of which the last song is this song.

Today’s final song is Jingle Bells by Austrian Death Machine. The band is a tribute to Arnold Schwarzenegger. Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying does all of the music, and Chad Ackerman of Destroy the Runner and As I Lay Dying provides Arnold voices. This song was released in the summer (really?!) of 2008, and is a re-written version of the classic Christmas song.

Day 22/25 of songs for Christmas countdown: today’s first song is Santa Claus is Going Straight to the Ghetto by Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg. This was released in 1996. The Christmas on Death Row compilation was a compilation album of Death Row artists and proceeds went to charity.

Today’s second song is Jungle Bells by Skindred. They are a hip hop and reggae influenced hardcore band from Wales. This song was released in 2005 on a compilation album for the Taste of Chaos tour.

The third song today is X-M@$ by Corey Taylor. He’s more well known as the singer for Slipknot. This song was released as a stand alone single in 2010. It’s a country influenced rock song and definitely NSFW.

Day 23/25 of songs for Christmas countdown: the first two songs today are from the same artist. Revenge of the Egg People were a Canadian punk band. These songs were released in 2002 on their Christmas album, which was released as a book. The first song is Seasons Greetings Felony, and was about having your house broken into on Christmas Eve.

The second song by them is Lesser Known Reindeer, where we get to know more about the rest of Santa’s reindeer.

Today’s last song is If You Were Born Today by Jimmy Eat World. This song was released in 2004 on their Christmas 7” single. This song is a different take on the Christmas story.

It’s early af, but you get the last songs available for this year. There’s 7 available for tomorrow. Not everything is SFW, but if you rock it in your garage it’s all good.

This playlist is the rejected Christmas songs that were available on Spotify and YouTube. If they weren’t available I added a different song.

Day 25/25 of songs for Christmas countdown: out of the 7 last songs listed, only one was a replacement song due to it not being on Spotify. This is the song. This was released in 1998 on a Christmas compilation by Tooth & Nail Records. This song is by Five Iron Frenzy who is a ska band from Colorado. It’s about the excitement of Christmas morning when you’re a kid and you want to get your parents up.

Peter Schickele, the man behind P.D.Q. Bach, has died at the age of 88.

A terrible video of him in action years ago with the Boston Pops and Itzhak Perhlman:
