I took mine to their first show earlier this year: Regina Spektor. They love Garbage though. That sounds like a fun show.

Metric only did like 10-11 songs as the opener. Then Shirl stomped out on stage and rocked for about 18 songs... then Noel Gallagher showed up and we went to the concessions and then the car. :D

Speaking of Metric, they popped this out last week:

Sounds like them and I appreciate it. Reminds me of going to see shows in Toronto and my friends now long parted who I would hang out with up there.

Was at the game tonight and I caught them playing Waiting Room. I don't think I've ever heard them playing any Fugazi during a Sabres game before.

Whoa, bit of a deep cut, musically, for a team.

Been listening to film scores lately as I read, books and tunes can compliment each other nicely. Zimmer is OP.

50 years ago on this date The Who released Quadrophenia, their second rock opera.
If you have not listened to it in its entirety in a single sitting (i.e., only discrete tracks without the continuity and sequence as intended), I suggest you try it sometime as a straight listen or accompanying a long task (~90 minute drive, cleaning out the garage, painting a couple rooms, etc.)

Released a couple years after Who's Next, I liken Quadrophenia to the Rolling Stones Exile on Main Street in that the cumulative commercial success of prior albums allowed the band to be creative in the direction they themselves (and for The Who, Townshend in particular) wanted to explore.

I consider Quadrophenia the greatest concept double album (as opposed to double albums not thematically linked, like Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti and the Beatles The Beatles (White album) or greatest hits double albums, and even The Who's Tommy. I rate it higher than Pink Floyd's The Wall, but I like The Who better than Floyd.

Eh. I like Floyd a bit better. But Quadrophenia was pretty epic.

What about live albums? What's everyone's take on the best live albums recorded?

I know I always trumpet about anything Genesis related, but their "Seconds Out" album is always rated as one of the top live albums ever recorded.
To borrow another poster from a different thread... "fight me." :)

I saw Regina at the Kodak Center a few months back, she was a fantastic performer and a riot in between songs. Said she hadn't ever played there before and felt like a kid at a new school having a birthday party where they aren't sure if anyone's gonna show up. Someone's phone went off at one point and she mimed answering it and went, "Hey, I'll have to call you back, I'm at a Regina Spektor show, she's trying to remember her old songs and ****ing up all the lyrics"

That is very much a Regina Spektor show lol

I was surprised to see a guitar on stage when we arrived. She played one song on guitar, which required no chord changes, but it was out of time and she had to have a tech tune it so she could play this monotone 90 second silly song

Oh man, Quad vs. Floyd for concept albums? Flip a coin.

Personally, my favorite live album is Alice in Chains Unplugged. Probably Layne Staley's last great performance. It's so sad; dude was a shell, and all that was left was his voice, but it's like he knew it was his last chance to leave his mark and he put everything into it.

That being said, I was tempted to take the cheap joke and say my favorite live album is Throwing Copper. :p

I like Three Sides Live.

I also like Seger's Live Bullet and J.Geils Blow Your Face Out. Talking Heads Stop Making Sense. There are many more by other artists.

Seger's "Turn the Page" is probably is the one song I think that sounds best live, as opposed to the studio take. You can hear the road weariness in his vocals in that live version.

Similarly the first one to pop in my head was Nirvana Unplugged. In general there aren't a lot of live albums that come to mind outside of the Unplugged label. Soundgarden had one from a concert late in their reunion run, maybe 2016 or 2017, possibly from San Francisco. Simon and Garfunkel at Central Park?

Any Royal Blood fans out there? They are one of the few newer bands on my radar. The Lumineers are also great. They couldn't be more different but are both enjoyable.

This is obviously the best live rendition of any song ever

I've never really understood why they always take the drummer and give him a cajon/bongos/djembe/whatever. The whole kit is acoustic. If volume is the issue use a booth or baffles. It's like painting when limited to one color.

Is that Guild a Waverly era f-40, or a reissue? Those guys used to build some decent guitars.

Hey, can’t remember if I posted this here already, but I pulled together a Halloween playlist of metal songs (without going too deep into the metal genre). I add to it every now and then when I hear a new song.

Listening pleasure for your earholes.

I only listen to Yacht Rock now. If it isn’t Michael McDonald, Christopher Cross, or similar I’m not interested.
