who's performing?

Run The Jewels. I admit I may have unduly influenced them via this tune which I found amusing in delivery and video format (the three primaries in the collaboration all have little cameos as people at the negotiating tables as well):

Also, NSFW right off the bat.

Edit - and yes, I think it was Cadillac who used part of this in an ad. None of it with any of the vocals, but that still makes me laugh.

RTJ is definitely worth missing some school. The lyrics alone can give them an education they won't get in class.

I saw RTJ three times last summer when they were opening for Rage Against the Machine. Prior to the concerts I knew of them but little of their music. Each show was more enjoyable than the previous one as the tracks became familiar. Hope your spawn enjoy the concert.

Yes, that means I saw RATM three times, lol, over a five day period. It was my first time seeing them live and I was unsure if there would be another opportunity so with three shows in less than 90 minutes travel time I took the opportunity. This may be my favourite video of the three shows because the crowd that night seemed to be the loudest. My brother recorded and shared videos from concerts then after he passed away I found his login information and resumed posting videos. I was using his digital camera that didn't have image stabilization until 2023 when my Pixel phone took over. The Pixel doesn't pick up the crowd as well however the stabilization allows me to focus more on the stage than the phone, not that it's perfect, especially if alcohol made it's way into the evening, lol. Oh, and Zack tore his Achilles early during their second concert so he performed the remaining shows on that 17 date leg of the tour while seated. Unfortunately for fans they canceled the European tour then eventually the second North American leg.

I saw RATM at Lollapalooza in Barrie in 93. I don't know how well known they were as their album hadn't been out long. I certainly never heard them before. They opened with Killing in the Name of - and I never saw a crowd so quickly buy into what a band was selling as when I saw that show. Everyone was jumping within the first few measures.

Sorry to hear about your brother @yahhockey. Rage is a fun show, I think I saw them in the early '90's as part of a festival but that's a bit muddled with the concussion stuff.

The crazy thing is that that specific song was on Top 40 radio then. It was absolutely mind blowing.

I'm hearing the show was good.

Musically related, someone in a group chat posted a pic of a cake made to look like a TB-303 sync. I momentarily glazed over talking about it as a key to early house/acid house/techno stuff, sharing a particular song as one that had been reworked using the -303:

(Used notably in the opening rave scene in the movie "Blade".)

Buffalo Sabres

“Hope Is A Dangerous Little Thing” — The Menzingers

We’ve been here before with these guys, but maybe not with as much of a “This is the year!” feeling around the fan base and the league.

So just remember these words: “Hope is a dangerous, dangerous little thing / To keep finding out the hard way, what tomorrow never brings.”

The angst will be incredibly strong here if they stumble out of the gate.

Last year's version was this:

Buffalo Sabres

“Planning a Prison Break” – The Receiving End of Sirens

Charlie: Let’s be honest, the Sabres have been planning their prison break from the league’s basement for nearly a decade now. Might this particular attempt actually be the clean getaway their fans so desperately want it to be?

Staple: Feel like Sabres fans have been quietly saying “This is the last night in my body” for a while.

SG: If this is Charlie comparing Buffalo to a prison, I simply won’t stand for it.

my association is that track from trainspotting

than I "slipped" to Prodigy

and than back to the roots of New Order when they were still called Joy Divisions which is in a completely different genre but here we go

Underworld are still touring.

If you want an interesting “wtf happened”, Peter Hook has a couple of books out about his like in JD/NO, touring, running Factory Records, etc…

Pete also tours with his son playing bass and the lad looks just like his old man when he plays.

And to go full circle here is the most New Order sounding tune of the pandemic:

I was at that show too. That experience of seeing the crowd transform like that was incredible (couldn't have had a better fit for something like that then the end of Killing in the name of either). It's a pantheon moment for me in all of the shows I have attended.

I saw them several times after (though not in recent years) and while they always put on a great performance, that show and that moment stands apart.

My Halloween playlists got so big that I had to make a "greatest hits". Now that's scary..

Haha. I have one too. Rock and metal predominantly. How’d you do your cool playlist link? I can’t workout how to get the code to share it that way.

Also. Go the ABs!! That was a nail biting game.

Many many years ago I made a mixtape of techno/ acid house stuff. The inspiration to make said mixtape was this track. Will never not fire this up when I think of it.

Caravan Palace was the first real show for my spawn. I've since taken them to see AJR (that was originally a pre-pandemic gift that got cancelled), Metric with Garbage, and a bunch of local acts since. But that one at the House of Blues down in Orlando kicked it off.

I took mine to their first show earlier this year: Regina Spektor. They love Garbage though. That sounds like a fun show.
